Beautifully written, you can feel the grief from the pages.

A really interesting read on how grief affects us.

Brilliant, poignant, heartfelt and warming words about her love for her dearest father. Chimamanda’s writing remains amazing and powerful, bringing me to tears as she described wonderful memories of her father. It’s such a love letter to the man whom she claimed to love so much. I am grateful that I got the chance to read this text.

I thought this was going to be a long read. I’m glad it wasn’t. Grief is so big of an emotion that it robs one of words to explain it.

This short collection of essays about how CNA processed her grief was healing for me. I lost my grandfather who was like a father to me 7 years ago and I haven’t visited his grave once. I’m afraid if I do, it’ll acknowledge that him being gone is real. I used to just imagine that he is on a long trip around the world— that’s why I can’t see him yet. But now, I’m slowly trying to take a step forward. Death is grim, and grief, even worse. But that’s the reality of it. We live and we die, we leave others with good or bad memories, we learn, digress, and we appreciate . At the end of the day, the only consolation we get are memories that will keep us at bay until it’s our time to go.

You see, this woman is a beast. I never met her father but I got teary and started sniffling at some point. Her pain became my pain and overtime, I started thinking of everyone I had lost.

If you’ve ever lost anyone close to you, this is for you. It helps you work through your pain/grief and on some level, brings closure. I laughed at the right parts and felt broken alongside her. God!!!! It was such a prolific experience in terms of emotions.
