I went into this expecting a full-blown second chance romance, but I felt this worked better viewed as primarily Eva grappling with her past and embracing her future, rather than a swoony love story with Shane. I loved the writing, there's some brilliant dialogue and observational deep POVs, and Eva's relationships with her mother, her daughter and her friends were beautifully drawn. I never fully felt like I got under Shane's skin, he's somehow both astonishingly flawed and blandly perfect, and I didn't invest in his relationship with Eva. But this fortunately didn't dent my enjoyment of the book, I was happy to follow Eva to the finish.

A few grumbles - I thought Eva's pronouncement to her fans at the awards show was incredibly harsh! Write a short story to tie up the series, don't just give up completely! I fully appreciate that authors owe their readers nothing... But a 14 book series is an investment, this decision struck me as needlessly cruel on Eva's part. Also, I was desperate for a more passionate defence of romance, but the feelings towards the genre seemed lukewarm at best.

Really enjoyed the love story in this book. It was so beautiful, yet flawed and real. I loved the authors style of writing, with the depth and emotion she writes with along with pop culture references and humor. Will absolutely be checking out her other work!
