I went into this book without reading the blurb so I had no idea what it was about. I could not follow it. Then I read the blurb & decided to give up on it now & maybe start it again some other time when I am in the mood.

Blurb claims it's Fleabag meets... something... (just realised I don't have it to hand) and wow. Yeah. There is some seriously gallowsy gallows humour. It's incredibly, creepingly dark and ominious and sexually violent and funny. Go figure!

It's one of those books that I am very glad to have read, and I doubt I will manage to read it again. The disaffected haze Viv operates in for much of the books was a touch too recognisable at lol. Witchcraft, seriously, how Wyld writes such dark matter with a light touch.

A few moments of... confusion with regard to the intermingled stories of nameless women. There was one in particular that seemed to have taken place in the Berwick house and I struggled to place it on the timeline of events and I think I got too wound up in the little details for it to have the impact it was aiming for.

I imagine this could be a frustrating book for some as very little is neatly concluded. It ends without much change in the characters' lives. A shift has taken place, but they are going to keep plodding along in their grooves.

this book reads like a story by that friend who calls everyone they know by name even though you have no clue who they are and you completely lose track of they're saying trying to figure out who the people are

I was not expecting the visceral reaction I had when reading this book. The frustration; the disorientation; the incandescent rage. There would hardly be a woman who couldn't relate to something in these three stories. It is well structured, with the right balance of intrigue and foreboding to keep you reading. It is a story of women and their relationship with volatile and deceptively cruel men, as well as the legacy of intergenerational trauma, but it is also a story celebrating the relationship between women, and how we can build one each other up rather than tear ourselves down. I still don't know how to feel about it, but it won't leave me easily.
