Remi is running to the only safe place she has Mackinac Island where her family and more importantly Brick are.

Remi is in trouble. She was helping her friend escape a domestic situation and found herself in trouble. She runs home to hide and come up with a plan to rescue her friend. She immediately runs into the man she has been pining over since she was a teenager.

Brick is a police officer on the island. Remi is nothing but trouble for his personal and professional life. Remi is impulsive and has been known to get herself into her fair share of trouble, even with her mom being the Chief of police. Brick has also been harboring a thing for Remi for years and he refuses to get involved with her.

Here is my issues with the book. Remi has chased after Brick the entire time she has known him. When they finally hook up he wants her to prove that she's in it for real and not just sex...huh. She's been chasing him. Seems like he would be the more likely to only be in it for sex.

Speaking of sex, there is too much. They don't do anything but have sex. The reader has no idea if they can actually be a couple outside the bedroom.

Brick says he could never be with Remi, but never really gives a reason why. The first time they meet he's 25 and she's 16. Nothing happens they're just azquintances. It doesn't seem like anything even close to anything happens until she's like 19 and she makes a move on him. He says he'll meet her the next day to make it official and flees the island... Ok so he wasn't really interested could have just said that. But then he shows up a few years later and marries her best friend. Why!? I thought the whole reason they couldn't be together was because of her age, but her best friend is the same age. Not to mention his brother is in love with her best friend.

Basically Brick was an idiot and I didn't see what she saw in him outside of physical looks and that he helped raise his brother after his parents abandoned them. He offered nothing, she was the interesting one and I don't know why she held that flame for him for over 10 years after everything he did to her.

I want to talk to whomever decided the age gap part of this was okay. I love an age gap romance, but not when the feelings start when she's 16 and he's 24. I have no idea how that got past so many people and managed to get published so recently. Why couldn't the feelings have started when Remi was 24? I really don't understand why she needed to be underage when they start "falling in love." I also found it disturbing that everyone in town seems to know that Remi and Brick had "feelings" for each other when she was underage and...no one does anything about it. Whenever I managed to forget the age gap issue, the novel would bring it up again for reasons I don't understand.

Besides the inappropriate relationship beginnings, I found some of the main plot to be a bit repetitive and sometimes it developed too slowly. I enjoyed Remi and Brick falling in love AS ADULTS, but really don't understand why Score started their "relationship" where she does.
Brick's marriage to Remi's best friend also felt trite and unnecessary.
With more editing, this could have been a solid book.

This book was gifted to me by Kaya from the book club I’m in as part of a secret Santa. This book has been on my TBR forever and this was in my amazon basket, and I thought I would wait until the secret Santa gift arrived and luckily this was in the box, and I was excited to read this, and it was completely chaotic, but I loved it.

This book has two points of view. The first is Remi Ford and she is returning to her hometown of Mackinac Island in the dead of winter with a secret and a broken arm. But she is putting on a brave face for everyone. Unfortunately Brick Callan knows she is hiding something and is determined to find out what put the shadows in her green eyes. Even if it means breaking down the walls, she made sure was unbreakable. Remi is determined to avoid Brick but Brick’s chest beats a loyal heart with a few cracks in it. He’s the steadfast, overprotective type especially when it comes to Remi as he has practically stopped her from having fun all his life and cock-blocked any opportunity she has had. The second point of view is Brick Callan. He has been in Mackinac forever and is a sergeant in the police force and a bartender for the local bar. Brick wants to know what’s going on without falling for the one girl he has never got over. He is determined to break down these walls that she has around her. He can’t fall for your brother’s high school sweetheart, your boss’s daughter or your ex-wife's best friend especially when there are all in the form of green-eyed and beautiful Remi.

I loved the small-town romance aspect of this and that everyone knows everyone and what they were like as a child. I love that Remi wanted to prove to everyone that she had changed since she was a teenager, and she wasn’t this troubled kid anymore, yet she kept getting in trouble. I love Brick – broken, overprotective and loyal. The fact that everyone rings him first instead of anyone else when someone is in trouble. I loved the kids and how one of them saved the day because even though she was quiet, she was attentive. I loved the storyline and loved the mystery aspect of it and wanted to know the secret as well and what the hell what was going on. I love the fact that no one wanted to get with anyone because of history and things like in a small town, if you did that everyone would be single.

I loved the storyline but felt like there was times where the information was just repeated and there wasn't any need for it. Like if we did a shot for how many times it got mentioned that Brick couldn’t get with Remi because she’s the boss’s daughter – I would have been drunk by 50% of this book. I usually love the long books but with the flashbacks and repeated information, this book could have been cut down by about 150 pages.

Overall, I loved this book, it was mysterious, adorable, hot with the small-town vibes. I cannot wait to read more of Lucy’s work.

Very spicy book. Loved that there was some mystery to the story beyond the romance.
