I honestly had a really hard time liking Beck… I know a lot of people insta-love his alphahole-ness, but a lot of the way he went about things was rubbing me the wrong way (probably Kat’s intention tbh). Meanwhile Margo was incredibly relatable in her messiness and insecurities. But the 5✨ HEA made this a solid read and I’m excited for book 2 releasing soon!!

I should have trusted my instincts when I DNF'd it back during its release week at around 4%. I knew it wasn't going to be good, but decided to give it another go. And since I suffered through the majority of it, I'm counting this stupid thing as a book read because I earned these pages.
The incredibly condensed version of my thoughts is that this reads like 50 Shades of Grey fanfic meshed with Delena from The Vampire Diaries. While that might be good in theory (who doesn't like lighthearted billionaire fantasies?), in practice it's awkward and needed SEVERE help in the editing department. If the author repeated herself once, she did it a thousand times, sometimes in the SAME PARAGRAPHS. I have literal highlights where she repeats the same inner thoughts or "information" twice in the same paragraph, just restating herself for no reason. That was the least of my concerns once I got further into the story, but it made my eye twitch so bad I had to mention it.
There wasn't any chemistry between the characters, it's very hot and cold and manufactured "enemies to lovers" that doesn't really feel like it's worth reading (their first kiss is around 30% in and it's just boring, super quick for what I thought would be a slow burn?). Then the multiple chapters of smut made me yawn, an actual yawn left my body and I just flipped through until they were finished in bed because it was cringe-y and awkward. Then we get to the "big reveal" about the two main characters and how they originally fell for each other and I just got the ick so bad I had to stop. I draw a hard line at it and that's on me.
I don't know - it seems like it's a mixed bag with the reviews. I'll chalk this up as another book like The Spanish Love Deception where it just wasn't for me. I'm just ready to not have this taking up space in my damn kindle app.

Until finally, at the last 94 pages, I was just really over the storyline. Everything felt a little bit too far-fetched in the grand scheme of their relationship, especially the before.
And there really was no good justice dealt to Carter that I felt was needed and even his scandal wasn’t like bad per se.
So while I can see you how other people can really fall in love with this book, this was just not for me.

What a couple, what a book. It’s been a while since I’ve been this enamored with a book that I haven’t been able to put it down. When I wasn’t reading, I was thinking about this book. While I was reading, I never wanted it to end. This is my first book by Kat and it’s safe to say, I’m a fan.
More about the book itself though:
The opening of the book is our FMC Margo working for a lower level security company in LA, when her ex-boyfriends older brother shows up to the office wanting speak with her about something. He confesses that he bought the company she’s working for just for the chance to talk to her about this grand scheme he needs her help with. Basically,
Despite their original reasoning for joining forces, the connection between them has been brewing for longer than they’re both willing to admit. It’s easy to see from even their first interactions that Margo is incredibly responsive to Beck, in all ways. And though he likes to act like every bit of the stoic billionaire, Beck is just as affected by her. The tension between these two is palpable, and had me on the edge of my proverbial seat until they finally gave in.
And lord when that rubber band finally snapped… 🥵
I love an angsty give-in to what the MC’s have been denying themselves of for pretty much half the book. It makes the pay off that. much. better.
And believe me when I say, it’s good. like 4/5 🌶️ good. Beck has a dirty mouth, and loves to taunt Margo every chance he gets. They’re both very vocal 😅
Outside of the bedroom, their banter is witty and comical at times. I love these two characters and I’m thankful to Kat for sharing them with us!
READ. THIS. BOOK.
