It was okay. Nice to read Connor and Mearas story but otherwise super slow. It was a struggle to keep my attention.

As usual Nora Roberts does not disappoint. I always look for her new book and this new series is as good if not better than some of her previous ones. You know what you are getting but that doesn't stop you from enjoying it. This one did pull on my heart strings more, even caused a few tears.

I almost gave this three stars because I enjoy Connor, quite a bit more than I liked Iona in the first book. But if that one was lacking the actual romantic story, I sort of feel like this one gave up on the idea altogether. There was barely any building of the romance between Connor and Meara. Most of the book, in fact, was the meetings between all six characters, which really just rehashed things we'd already seen and got very boring very quickly. I'm still going to finish the series - but it definitely won't be one I pick up again. So far, very disappointing for a Nora Roberts trilogy.

There are a number of similarities, in my opinion, between this second book in ‘The Cousins O’Dwyer Trilogy’ and the second books from the ‘Gallaghers of Ardmore’ and ‘Sign of Seven’ series. I certainly didn’t love this any less and as I mentioned in my review of ‘The Dark Witch’ there’s a certain comfort to some of the predictability of this author’s writing. It makes me laugh, a little, because normally I despise predictability and have mentioned it in unfavorable terms in many reviews. I guess my soft spot for this author goes all the way back to my 15 year old self.

Connor and Meara are perfect for each other. They’re like two peas in a pod and it came as no surprise to me that Branna has been wondering how long it would take for them to get together when, in truth, neither of them recognized their own feelings all these years. I liked their battle of wills.

The battle with Cabhan forges along and I found it increasingly fascinating how Eamon and Connor continued to meet at various times in their dreams - sometimes back in Eamon’s time period and sometimes in Connor’s. I have a feeling the final battle will involve not just these six but also Brannaugh, Eamon, Teagen, and perhaps even Sorcha.

Now I’m drooling for the final book because Fin and Branna are going to be amazing together.

June 2019 // I enjoyed it. I'm kind of so-so about this series because it definitely isn't my favorite but I always enjoy reading Nora Roberts books. Sometimes I think my problem with this series is that I have trouble imagining what these characters look like and what this world is like. But that's okay. It's still a fun read.

May 2016 // I read some pretty awful reviews for this series as a whole but I don't think it's nearly as bad as everyone is saying. I agree that it's as good but I still think it's decent. I got into this second book a little faster than I did the first book and I'm definitely interested in how it all ends.

Another delightful read! Meara and Connor are a great couple, and I enjoyed how they circled around to find each other. It's sweet to go from a strong friendship to love, and I think Nora Roberts did it well. I have to admit, knowing that this is a trilogy, it takes some of the tension away from the story, and not in a good way. It's obvious that that light won't defeat dark until the end of the third book or why would there be a need for three books...so that urgency isn't really there as it should be. But it's still interesting to see what happens, how the battles go, and go through the romance of it all. Now I'm ready to see how these star crossed lovers get back together in the final book!

An excellent second book in the trilogy! I can’t wait to start the third and find the conclusion.

it was too repetitive. I think more time needed to happen between this and the dark witch. still good but not a knockout. the last should be a great story for Fin and Branna

Listen, if you've read one NR book, you've read them all. The writing isn't bad, the story flows. It's just the same as her other 200 romance books.

Overall, it’s an okay book. However I think it somehow failed to keep my attention for long periods of time. Nearing the end I was solely focused on finishing it, not what was actually happening in the story. I think it could have been better.
