Sold as an essay on faith but achieves much more than that, covering class, culture, psychology and of course, faith. My opinion as an atheist is biased, however I found Freuds arguments to be compelling and insightful. I canโ€™t say that I particularly โ€˜learntโ€™ anything from the work, the ideas rather delved into concepts that I already believed, nevertheless it was enjoyable to have the studies and thoughts written in such a clear way that I went away from this feeling more versed on the subject and enabled by my already-formed opinions.

Yeah exactly everyone's belief system whether they believe in religion or not is actually same.  It's not gonna change because someone thinks otherwise not unless the person himself wants to change.

As for saying religion is an illusion and it's been a tool used by man to comfort himself, I don't see why that's even an issue.
His arguments were pretty weak. I don't know about the whole psychoanalysis thing but will definitely read it but as far as philosophy and religion is concerned, he's himself confused about things. He talks how religion preaches about morality but then people keep doing immoral things and then he blames religion for it. How's religion responsible for that? The problem lies in the people and not the religion(that's my opinion).
