I don't usually read poetry but that is certainly about to change after reading this.

Danez Smith really can convey every emotion of being black, queer, and HIV positive in these poems and do it well even if I don't personally relate to it I can feel his pain and anger and life.

Truly truly amazing. I want to reread it and definitely will.

Everyone should pick this up and read it.

Becoming poz as muse, in gay black America (almost 50% lifetime risk the poet writes; pre prep?). Moving stories that stick and become obsessions for people treated as possessions.

Please seek out diverse reviews.
This is a powerful collection about the Black male body, in violence, in America, in love. It offers beautiful imagery and really paints a picture with each poem and collectively as a whole.
