I loved the Diane storyline, but the actual plot of this was a bit weird. Why does it matter if someone is causing blackouts? There don’t seem to be any real consequences...

Well…I guess I got the Goldie/Diane relationship development I was asking for because they spent most of this volume fighting! It was supposed to make their relationship seem stronger by the end but instead I just felt like they weren’t really compatible together? Still cute though.

Set in south Florida in 1963, Goldie Vance is a smart, resourceful and tough teen detective who goes around solving the mysteries that occur in and around the Crossed Palms resort, where she works a sa valet and her dad works as manager. It's one part Nancy Drew and one part Lumberjanes, and at the heart of it is a great concept borne by occasionally strong writing. But there are issues with this that often break our spell, whether it's handwavy plot jumps to solve the mystery at hand or panels of really crude artwork that makes one wonder why the illustrators never learned how to draw cars. Being part of the Boom! family of books, there's a lot of socially progressive tonality here, which is awesome. But one keeps wondering, being set in 1963, when are we going to confront the awful norms of the day? Goldie Vance never does, and it makes one wonder how much it's serving its presumably young readers to set the story in a time that doesn't deserve to have its worst parts glossed over.

3.75 stars!
Summary:
This volume follows a music festival set up at Goldie's hotel, with a KGB mystery and some sick tunes!
Characters 4/5:
The characters absolutely make this series! They're so good!
Plot 3.5/5:
This wasn't my favorite plot. I just found it a little hard to get into. The music stuff was super cool but the KGB stuff interests me a lot less.
Art Style 4/5:
Love it so much, same as always!
Setting and atmosphere 4/5:
Again, such a great time! This very respectful, idyllic "historical" world is so fun!
