Once again, Liz has penned a special book about women and life and humanity. Tears are still rolling down my face, as I write this review. This book occupies the same place in my heart as "The Signature of All Things," though they are not alike in content. However, they share a similar courageous spirit and fragile heart. I love them both. Thank you, Elizabeth Gilbert, for the gift of your voice and your willingness to say yes to the divine creative force that urges you.

Enjoyed this more than I expected, considering I didn't love "Eat, Pray, Love". The characterizations were beautifully done, and I felt for the emotional turmoil of there lives. It did feel a bit disjointed in parts, almost like it should have been two separate books that were pushed together. Wrapping it in the "letter to a friend's daughter" box limited it in this sense, and there were times I was wondering why Vivian would choose to include this part of her life. Overall, though, I felt gripped and invested throughout.

A love story to New York, but also to strong independent females, friendship and bucking conventions. The book is structured as a letter and storytelling to Angela, whose connection to the narrator only becomes apparent toward the end of the novel. I particularly enjoyed the vibrant descriptions of the theatre scene in the 1940s.

I really liked the first 65% then it felt strained and like another story.

None of the characters were likeable enough for me to care about a story that was only mildly interesting. Couldn’t keep my focus at all.

Really liked this one. A bit slower but very well written
