This book is very intense, so it feels weird saying I "enjoyed" the book but it was a really great read. I was connected enough to the characters that I found myself wanting to read more to find out how they would things would turn out for them. I also loved the ending of this book - it was such a complicated pairing of hope and sadness that left me with some serious feelings after.

Pros:
Brave story
Loved reading about Arab muslims
Kept me reading until the end

Cons:
REPETITIVE
I felt like they were forcing the themes down my throat.
The ending was anticlimactic

Overall, I appreciate that this book was written. I just wish there was more of the story, more things to captivate and less of the same theme over and over and over until it stopped me caring a little

Ending was very abrupt. Heart breaking and infuriating.

This book is so dear to me! It exceeded my expectations. The raw emotion it unfolds in showing how difficult it is to truly be a woman -- and a Palestine woman on top of it all. The shame, guilt, anger, fear, and sadness so many women feel throughout their lives was highlighted so clearly. There is so much I can say about this book. I think my biggest take-away was the pure, unconditional love Isra had for her daughters despite worrying she was too depressed to care for them -- she endured so much due to her love for them. I absolutely adored this book, although it scattered my emotions all over the place!

A woman is no man was definitely a tearjerker for me and I was honored to have stepped in the shoes of women through generations seeing their lives through their eyes.
