Teenaged Lucy accepted an invitation to a party while visiting her aunt, not knowing that she was a target. A slightly-older-than-her Mason rescued her when he found out about the sociopath host's plans for her. Together, they set a standard they would measure the future against.
When Lucy returns thirteen years later upon the death of her aunt, Lucy uncovers secrets and plots and the truth about her rescue from that party. That same truth reveals an unsavory secret about her aunt and about the cause of her aunt's "accident."
A thirteen year old mystery, murder, intrigue and a wealth of suspects keeps you reading while Lucy and Mason back into a relationship that started on that fateful night when he first rescued her. An excellent tale of moral fiber, this is one I will keep on my shelves to read again!

This book was so boring. I struggled to get through it. I knew who the main criminal was from the moment they were introduced (although I didn’t guess at all the different connections and crimes).
I listened to the audiobook and the narration was awful. I’ve listened to the narrator before and I know she can do other voices- but in this one there was no discerning between characters. It was impossible to follow some of the dialogue because you couldn’t tell who said what.

Very enjoyable read. Classic Krentz.
One thing I've never understood about her books- no matter what time period she sets her people in, the heroine always wears a nightgown and I always picture it as a cotton, shapeless dress that goes below the knees. I don't know, maybe I'm just picturing this wrong and it's actually not ugly, but I don't get it. I've truly never met someone who wears a nightgown who isn't 85. Am I wrong? Are nightgowns common? Personally, I'm a big shirt person or a tank and shorts person. Am I crazy?

I didn't know there was such a profession as a forensic genealogist, but Lucy Sheridan is one and is very good at it. She inherits her aunts estate, opening a long buried mystery of a small town in Northern CA wine country. She rediscovers Mason Fletcher, a guy she had a crush on as a teenager. Mason is a detective, also very good at what he does. Some romance, some who dun-it. Good overall

4.5 Krentz has a knack for creating strong characters that you instantly connect to. Lucy is strong, and her instincts are quite good a skill that comes in handy as forensic genealogist. Mason and his brother run a successful firm with his brother solving cold cases. The man is everything that makes my knees buckle. Smexy, noble, smart…*swoons* The friends to lovers trope is one of my favorites and her characters Lucy and Mason were the perfect couple. From the moment, they were reunited you could feel the electricity in the air. Krentz allowed the romance to grow making it feel genuine and have depth. The towns-folk and suspects in this small wine town were complex from the family feuds to the secrets keeping me on edge.
River Road offered an engaging murder mystery with twists and turns that kept me guessing as I pieced clues together. What I found fascinating was the way Krentz weaved events from the past (prologue) to the current mystery and chain of events. It was quite clever; nothing felt forced making it all the more suspenseful and dangerous. She even gave us a glimpse into events through the killer and while I had my list of suspects she kept me guessing till the reveal. When it all clicked into place, I thought it was brilliantly crafted. While the romance was certainly an integral part of the story and brought us some heat, it didn’t overshadow the mystery but only enhanced it.
