Lucy Sparks wakes up in a hospital after hitting her head to find that most of her memories are a lie. She wonders why her husband is nowhere to be seen, and is horrified when her parents tell her that sheโ€™s not actually married. The wedding and marriage that live in her head are examples of what her doctors call false memories, things that she makes up to fill the gaps after her coma. She was in fact engaged at one time, but it was broken off years earlier. She now has a boyfriend, Matt, with whom she lives, but remembers him presently only as a colleague. Lucy is very confused as Matt seems to be a nice person, but she realizes sheโ€™s still in love with her ex-fiance. Will she get over her feelings for him and stay with Matt? Or is she destined to be alone after this tragic accident?

This is my first time reading something by Karma Brown, but fun fact, I met her last year at a blogger conference where she spoke on a panel about publishing a book. So I picked up this book and wasn't disappointed. It's a story of Lucy, who has false memories, a side-effect of falling and hitting her head. She clearly remembers getting married, and all the details of the wedding, when in fact, she isn't married at all. And of course, her boyfriend isn't too happy that she thinks she's married to somebody else! These false memories play with her emotions and her life, as she tries to navigate what is true and what isn't. It's a nice read, and you feel for her boyfriend Matt, who tries to show her the life she has, vs. the life she thinks she wants and lives.

Reminiscent of both What Alice Forgot and Remember Me, but not as good as either. A solid three, though the last chapter left if feeling rather slapdash and like the author just wanted to wrap it all up.

I want to thank Netgalley and Harlequin for the ARC of The Life Lucy Knew by Karma Brown. This book will be available at your favourite bookstore on June 12, 2018.

Lucy wakes up in a hospital bed after spending several weeks in a coma caused by a bad fall. She is surrounded by her parents, and Matt, her boyfriend. She recognizes her family, but her memories of the past four years do not match reality. Her relationship with Matt is threatened by false memories. Lucy is confused and is trying to gain back those four years, but not everyone is honest with her.

The story is interesting and well structured. I really liked how Karma Brown developed Lucy's relationships with each character. I would have given it 4 stars, but the ending twist is a bit anticlimactic and left me with too many unanswered questions.

I love all of Karma Brown's books. She writes evocative, moving stories with relatable characters I feel like I know. Read this one in a day and can't wait for the next one.

This book sounded interesting and started off quite intriguing but as the book went on it lost some stream. The main character Lucy was hard to connect with and then towards the end of the book I actually started to hate her indecisiveness and questionable background choices. I have generally liked other books by Karma Brown but this one just want up to par. An average 3.5/5 to me.
