The influences are noticeable right from the beginning but the tone changes too much until finally settling into a typical chosen one training montage

Love the artwork. I can see the French and Japanese stylistic influences – a little bit of bande dessinée, a little bit of manga... And Locatelli-Kournwsky’s knack for shape and silhouette is uplifted by de Santiago’s vibrant colours.
The fight scenes are slightly hard to follow, but that moment where
Troezen yeets a makeshift weapon and it flies out of the confines of the panel, seemingly towards the reader...
that was very cool.

There are some interesting concepts, like
magical girls being coopted by the state; the image of Naoko in her leotard and tights being deployed from a military aircraft
ugh! So good.

It’s really promising! This volume is only the introduction, laying the groundwork for (hopefully many) future instalments. I’m hungry for more.

Such a fun time, but barely begins before this volume wraps up! I can see a great series ahead (fun cast, classic setup, great art) but the start is only just that in the end.

This is a fantastic magical story and you can see it's clear inspirations in the first issue alone.

It does feel very much like the set up for a much bigger story. It covers a  lot over it's pages in terms of world building and introducing it's characters but a lot of depth is currently missing. Despite this I don't think it's a major flaw, it simply feel's like an introduction to everything we can expect in future. (Of which I really hope they do carry on this beautiful series).

I enjoyed the characters and found there dynamic fun to read. The tension's of our protagonist fitting into an already established group of heros, the warmth of those moments of connection, and the exploration of past traumas are all fantastic.

The artwork is beautiful. It goes from some of the more comical scenes filled with beautiful vibrant colours to tense, heartbreaking, monochromatic scenes that despite it's lack of diaolgue relays such indepth moments.

beautiful art and cute characters but very brief and not much substance
