“ All these years you never told me why you were afraid. I guess I knew the reason but now you’ve said it out loud. Why did you ever doubt you’d have good children?”
“ because I’m not good. I was used to fulfill selfish desires for wealth, power and vengeance. I am a devourer.”
“And then you were free. And what did you do? Did you devour? Did you destroy.”

The artwork is stunning and I loved the dual plots of the parents and kids. It had some terrifying imagery but also felt sweet and funny at the same time! Can't wait to read the next one.

This took the whole overbearing “tiger mom” idea and dialed it up to 11. In a demonic kind of way.

🧠 My thoughts
The artwork was beautiful and distinguishable. The story was funny, dark, and very “Asian”, I liked that. Usually, I’m not a big fan of books involving fantasy monsters and so on but this one worked pretty well.

However, the world-building was very minimal at this point so I had many questions and it was quite confusing. I’m looking forward to reading the second book to see how everything goes.

👍 What I like
  • Beautiful artwork
  • Intriguing and mysterious story

👎 What I don't like
  • I wish that there is more world-building
