I was confused how this one started, leaping forward in time and back into the present. It also took me quite a while to listen to, but once I got into it I was hooked, same as the first book.
I love the characters and watching Jamie and Claire's relationship grow and change and strengthen.
There were a few times this book brought me to tears.
I was so excited when they were expecting a baby. I cried when she lost it and blamed Jamie. Oh! And the amount of stuff that happened with Jack Randall? And with Alex and Mary. Just...wow. That's a lot.

There's really so much that happens it's hard to remember and keep track of. I could easier re-read and catch new things that I missed.

Look, I should hate this book. I read the first three quarters finding it really long and in need of some editing, and then I read the last quarters - the first book did this to me too. The last quarter is five stars for me. I loved it!
I’m not gonna put this in spoilers because I think it might be useful for some who haven’t read the book yet, the rape depicted in this book are far too graphic me to feel comfortable. A lot of warning should be taken before reading this. I also think it strayed a little bit into victim shaming, and the ableism is a little bit uncomfortable for my liking.
A good book, but you need to know what you’re getting into.

Gabaldon weaves an intriguing story that flows from present to past, connecting characters across space and time. Her characters are flawed and all the more lovable for it. The plot is exciting and offers plenty of nail-biting scenes, yet also captures the moral development (and dilemmas) of the characters. This book is delightfully tantalizing

I enjoyed this a lot more than the first one; perhaps I was coming in with lower expectations. Rich in its historical setting, we travel from Scotland to Paris and back again. Really enjoyed learning more about the politics of the time and the Jacobite rebellion. Hated seeing the English win ofc, we're always the villains 😫

This was a comfort read as the story and characters were familiar. However I was kept engaged by the high stakes not only of Paris aristocracy but civil war too! There is something quite mesmerising about Gabaldon's writing, despite the smut scenes.
