I just couldn't. Characters were flat and not well written. Story sounded interesting but the lack of character development ruined it for me. Bummed.

3.5 out of 5. This is a good story about a central character being critical to saving the realm... The coming together of her allies takes much of the book, and I'm not sure how I feel about that. Overall, good, not great but worth checking out book 2.

A masterpiece of fantasy!! Cinematic, epic fantasy with a cool, diverse cast of characters and povs. All the scenes are so action-packed or filled with sass, it’s so fun to read. I love the world-building and the magic. I love this ragtag group of Companions who have to save the world!

Victoria Aveyard promised a book resembling a mix of Lord of the Rings and Guardians of the Galaxy and she delivered! The rag tag gang of characters that is the Ward’s last hope was an unlikely bunch. They brought equal parts laughter and suspense to the table as they navigated a world where the heroes failed. Corraine showed courage, Andry showed level headedness, Sorasa had sharp wit, Dom showed immense strength, Charlie was humorous, Valtik spewed nonsense rhymes that turned out to be huge clues, and Sigil challenged them all. There were so many twists and turns and beautiful prose. An amazing start to a new series!

Ugh

So so boring. I will not be reading the second book. A whole lot of nothing happened in all these pages. Waste of time.

I love high fantasy. While it is often lengthy, deterring some readers, I’m drawn to the stories of many, many pages.

Why?

Because I know I’m about to enter a world, a realm, a kingdom that will hold me captive while I explore the detailed terrain.

While I meet and greet a host of memorable characters.

While I engage in the great quest that will draw every ounce of determination and strength I possess.

A world so rich and lush that I’m disoriented when I’m forced to come up for air, feeling lost in my own reality and longing for the other world I’m traveling in.

A good high fantasy will leave me satisfied. A great high fantasy will capture my full attention.

But epic high fantasy will hold my heart, strengthen my mind, and leave me breathless and weary.

Realm Breaker is high fantasy at its very best.

I feel as if I need a nap after that book!

I just ... I dunno. Couldn't get into it. Fine story, interesting enough world building, but nothing stood out as outstanding. The story was easily guessed, the characters mostly myopic (Sorasa Sarn as an exception), and the overall direction uninteresting. I think if I were younger or hadn't read her other series (which was AMAZING) or wasn't in the middle of two Sanderson series I might be more interested....?? But as it is, I just don't care and I have too many other books to saddle myself with this one for another page.

Overall, not a bad book, just not for me.
