I had delayed reading this for some time as it was my last piece of the sandman journey and I wasn't ready to close that chapter. That being said it was a nice return to the world of the endless and the illustrations were gorgeous. Story was a bit convoluted - but the characters made it worthwhile.

The kind of story you couldn’t do if it wasn’t a graphic novel. You’ll have to see it to believe me.
Works best if you’ve read the rest of Sandman, and is a definite head-bender so come prepared to think your way through the lush and dreamy visuals.

Sigue dando calorcito en el corazón leerlo. Y el dibujo es para enmarcar cada cm de mi casa con él. Genios. Maravilla.

Another excellent Sandman epic from Mr. Gaiman! This book relates the events that took place *before* Dream was captured in the first series.
Back when Dream and the Universe were young he performed an act of kindness. And now, because of that single act, the Universe is coming to a premature end. Dream decides he must atone and save everything and everybody. But he knows he's not up to the task.
The words and action and story are, of course, amazing. Nobody writes like Mr. Gaiman. Literally. His is a singular talent and Dream is, imo, his best canvas. I like the rich mythology he's developed around The Endless and how he weaves that with other mythologies and with science and with, well, everything. If you're new to Sandman you don't want to start here. But if you've been reading Sandman for a while this is a very good place to start indeed.
The art is breathtaking. Read the endpieces from the inker and colorer and letterer. Then go thru the book again, just looking. There are rich details there you surely missed the first time.
Two favorite pages. One in which we see a myriad number of aspects of Dream, our own familiar one along with them. Another on which, for reasons that will be clear, we see scenes from several worlds. Is that a panel by Morris? Is that Curt Swan? How about those other that look familiar but I can't place? Of course not! But they are brilliant swipes by the talented artistic team.

Of the whole series I think this volume has my favorite artwork. I’m glad I took the advice to read this last even though it’s a bit of a prequel. Really enjoyable read!
