This was such a great book and beginning of Sigurd's Saga. I can only praise characters, atmosphere and action.
what hell of a ride ! i loved every page.

Pacey and driven, although sometimes it felt like the narrative was driven more by the need to put the band back together than the revenge plot, but it's one of my favourite bands so I shan't complain too much.
The pages drip with as much mise-en-scene as blood, the character work feels rooted in time and place; even the bit parts feel like they could have off-page inner lives of their own. I'm looking forward to more of Sigurd's Saga.

Never doubt Giles Kristian. Absolutely brilliant.

Four chapters in and not enough to engage me. It throws you straight into the action, but I wasn’t invested in the characters to care what happened to them. A personal irk of mine is modern swearing in historical fiction and the f-bomb gets thrown around here like a hot potato.
Kristian is no way a comparison for Cornwell in my view.

Here lately I have been having some reading ADHD and I decided to switch things up and try this book. 3.5 stars rounded up for me. I bought the second book in this series at Ollie's, because it had great reviews and then ordered this one to get started. This was good and it was a great diversion from fantasy and horror.
I can't give it 5 stars, because, in all honesty, I skipped over a lot of the fighting scenes, but I learned that skipping fight scenes does not take away from the story at all. If you like Vikings and a good revenge plot, this is for you. I will certainly look forward to reading book 2.
