Stephanie Thornton the biographer or historical fiction writer took on a huge task in writing about the life of Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy Onassis and covering period of about 40y. Most everyone knows her name.
Jackie was a well educated very polished and beautiful young woman age 23 when she married into the Kennedy family. She was the perfect person for that family and without her JFK might not have been elected President himself a young man and an Irish Catholic with a father whose reputation was bad altho he was very wealthy. She loved her husband and she especially loved her children Caroline and John Jr (he died in crash with his new wife and friends when he was piloting the plane and he was young and it was after Jackie died of cancer.
At time reading this I would realize that based in some truths this is fiction. Yet I continued to read as it is extremely well written and sensitive to her character.
Jackie had much tragedy in her life and the Kennedy family has seen thru the generations many tragedies.
Very well done book and a huge undertaking...

My SIL passed this book onto me this summer and I’m so glad that she did. It was even on my radar but I throughly enjoyed this historical fiction recount of the periods of Jackie Kennedy Onassis’s life. I was just totally engrossed and made quick work of it, even though it’s a bit longer of a novel. I’d recommend this to all historical fiction fans.

Catching up with all the Historical Fiction and I’m loving getting back into this genre once again. I was so excited to read And They Called It Camelot because I’ve always been fascinated by anything to do with the Kennedy family.

I loved getting an inside glimpse into what it must have been like to be married to former President JFK, and as a notoriously private person, I really enjoyed this take on Jackie Kennedy’s life. The attention to detail and research was impressive, and this was such a great story!

*many thanks to Berkley for the gifted copy. All opinions are my own

I downloaded this book because I have a slight Kennedy obsession. I've read countless books and watched numerous documentaries and movies so I really doubted this book had much more to offer but because it was about JFK and Jackie, I was going to read it anyway. While I didn't discover any new information, I was blown away by this novelization of their lives especially Jackie's. Thornton does a phenomenal job humanizing them so that they are much more than facts on a page. I wept through the entire book not just the assassination and the days following. Jackie was truly a woman of courage.

I love historical fiction, especially when I feel like I learned something. And They Called It Camelot is about Jackie Kennedy, starting prior to her dating/marrying JFK and ending after opening his presidential library.

I really liked this book! My only complaint would be the beginning was a little slow for me. But (spoiler?) by the time JFK was shot, I was crying.

Since Jackie is telling the story, you get an interesting perspective on the Kennedy’s, Jack and the presidency. I felt that I learned more about Jack as a president; he seemed very passionate about trying to make changes and guide America to a better future. I wonder what he could have accomplished as a two term president? I also didn’t know Jackie was a big preservationist and led efforts to save several historical sites. In many ways, this is a tragedy and the reader (if you have any basic knowledge of American history), knows Jackie’s life may be grand and opulent but certainly not easy.

And They Called It Camelot comes out in March, but I was able to read an advance copy through work. The bar for the rest of 2020 is set pretty high! I LOVED this book and I can’t wait for the release to be able to recommend it to customers. If you enjoyed Taylor Jenkins Reid’s 7 Husbands of Evelyn Hugo, then you will enjoy this as well - even if you aren’t a Jackie O superfan. This would be PERFECT for book clubs. 5/5⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
