this book was…weird. i liked it though. the concept is interesting and the pacing was strange but i liked rainbow rowells writing and it was cute. idk. it was just weird.

Definitely not my favorite of Rainbow Rowell's books, but still an enjoyable read!
Definitely "of its time"... there's some terms used by some of the characters that we don't use now because of their harmful history.

This has become my comfort book.
Técnicamente, es un libro de romance, pero en realidad es un libro de autodescubriiento, de cómo nos relacionamos (con la familia, los amigos, la pareja, uno mismo...) y de lo que queremos.
De sentirse perdido y de encontrarse.
Será por eso que vuelvo a él cuando me siento perdida.

Este es un libro un poco triste y también un poco de vivir por uno mismo. Creo que hoy me dediqué buena parte del día a leerlo porque sabía que lo que tenía por hacer significaba el final de una parte de mi vida, y me emociona, pero me da un poco de miedo.

Bueno, primero que nada, lo que hace distinta a esta historia es que si bien puede calificarse como de amor, en realidad casi todo el libro se centra en un sólo personaje, al menos de manera directa.
Podría decirse incluso que se trata más de Lincoln buscándose a si mismo, tratando de avanzar, de entender su papel, su lugar en el mundo. Sin embargo, al mismo tiempo las charlas entre Beth y Jennifer nos cuentan algo parecido sobre ellas, de manera que si bien su vida es más estable que la de Lincoln (están en un trabajo que saben que quieren, llevan una relación estable) también se cuestionan sobre el rumbo de sus vidas.
Con una manera bastante diferente de contar una historia, a través de las reflexiones de Lincoln y los e-mails de Beth y Jennifer, vemos cómo se van desarrollando los personajes, como avanza su vida y también la de quienes los rodean, mostrándonos así que todos avanzamos de diferentes maneras por la vida y que no siempre es lo que esperamos, pero con un poco de empeño podemos lograr bastante.
El crecimiento de los personajes se nota en las decisiones finales que toman y en los cambios que tienen en su vida, de manera que la respuesta a ¿se encontrarán por fin? tiene bastante sentido, y aunque quizá puede no ser del todo satisfactoria, a mi me parece que es casi la única manera en que podría haber pasado... porque tal como lo dice en la contra portada, no puede sólo ir y decir "Hola, soy el chico que lee tus correos".

Attachments is the sort of book that’s difficult to get into at first, but impossible to put down once you get going. I must admit, I hated Lincoln at the beginning of this book. I mean whining about a girl who dumped him ten years ago? C’mon. But by the end, I weirdly found myself rooting for him. Does he give me serious creeper vibes? Most definitely. But I'm happy for him and his character development at the end of it. I only hope that it all works out for him and Beth. I'm quite surprised she went for Lincoln at the end of it all. I found this part of the plotline very unrealistic. If a man had been stalking my email for months, I'm not making out with him in a movie theater. I'm calling the authorities and getting a restraining order.

This was a very cute, predictable story set in 1999 and 2000 cusp of technology. I really enjoyed the email aspect of it and thought Lincoln was an interesting character. I've been in a reading slump for a while and this helped me out of it

I appreciated the characters, along with their backstories. It sucked me in very quickly and was difficult to put down, while being easy to read and not dumbed down either. I appreciated the nuance that was there with pretty much all the characters (even those who could have easily been shallow antagonists but weren’t). There was a self-awareness to the story and the characters, which I wasn’t sure it would pull off with the premise but it did. I liked that it wasn’t actually filled with much romance (mostly pining). There were only two things I disliked/took issue with:
1. The last 10% of the story.The two love interests don’t even talk face to face until almost the very end. It felt unsatisfying that while he knew her very well due to reading her emails, you never get the journey of her getting to know him well in return, so I felt fairly indifferent about them operating as a couple, even though I still liked both their character arcs.
2. A subplot with a side character.She had no interest in being pregnant and having children (she explicitly found the idea repulsive) but her husband wanted them and she was scared he’d leave her because of it. I was expected something better than the old story of ‘and then she allowed herself to become impregnated because everyone told her she’d be glad she did it and it suddenly turned out she wanted a baby after all’. Also it really felt like that character would realise her husband only seemed to start appreciating her again because she gave in and agreed to have a child, but that... never happened. She loses the baby in a miscarriage after never having much of a connection with it, then decides she wants a baby after all. I’d love for characters not wanting children to not be told by other characters and/or the narrative that they’re wrong, actually, and they should jump in and become parents even if they don’t want to be parents. Sadly, this never seems to happen and I thought this book would do better since it seemed to have the perfect setup for it, but it ultimately didn’t. I know, I know, some people in real life do change their minds on children. I’m just sick of never getting to hear stories from people who don’t change their minds.
