Practically the only book where the movie is so, so, so much better.

Mary Poppins-practically in every way!!

An all time classic which I love more than anything! This book and even the film should not be missed by any child! A ture delight and magical tale of the 'perfect' nanny. Mary Poppins flys in to the aid of Jane and Michael Banks to replace the horrible nannies they have had so far. Mary Poppins makes their lives fun again with the aid of 'magic', household jobs become fun and jumping through a chalk picture leads to a day full of Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious-ness.

Very strange, nothing like the classic movie. Mary Poppins is kinda gruff and generally unlovable. The reverse zoo (humans in cages), was almost too much for me. There were some very creative aspects to the book, but not enough to save it in my opinion.

I've said before that Mary Poppins is one of favorite Disney films so when I saw the book at my local library I immediately picked it up despite being an adult and it being a children's book.

If you thought book Mary Poppins is anything like Movie Mary Poppins you would be mistaken. The first thing I thought when reading this 'Why the hell is she a nanny, she acts like she hates kids'. She is constantly pursing her lips in agitation, scorning them for asking questions, and then refusing to answer said questions. It may be all Julie Andrews fault, she has this way of looking at you with a twinkle in her eye that just makes you feel warm and cared for.

One thing I will say about book Mary is that she does have the mysterious whimsy that was captured on screen and in the book Mary and the kids go on many more adventures and see so many fun things. It seems like as long as you are full of imagination you can do, see and go anywhere. Despite Mary's weird demeanor it was a pleasant read, one I can see a parent reading to their kids at night before bed.

"Mary Poppins" is a very clever book, sure to entertain both children and adults alike. However, one mustn't begin reading this book with hopes of meeting Disney's tender and doting nanny, for the original Mary Poppins is much more self-amused and merely shares her magic with children for her own entertainment and ease of work.

A cute story: short and sweet, but kinda weird, and nothing like the movie. This would be a good book to read at bedtime with kids.

When I picked up this book, I expected a charming classic tale of a nanny who has inexplicable powers and a slightly aloof, but loving demeanor.

But Mary Poppins was downright mean.
""I wish I were invisible, " said Michael, when Mary Poppins had told him that the sight of him was more than any self-respecting person could be expected to stand."

Ah! Although each chapter tells a story of an adventure the kids go on, Mary's snark and the children's lack of personality made this a less than stellar read.

Not my cup of tea.
