"You are the reason I exist," she said softly, "the very reason I was born."

Julia Quinn has done it again! This book was a complete delight and I absolutely adored it.
I would have given it 5 stars had Benedict not been so pushy. It slightly put me off the book but he apologised later on so that made it slightly better.

Also, what is Quinn's obsession with the woman punching their love interests?

Sophie Becket is an Earl's illegitimate daughter. And in a cinderella-like story, she lives a life of servitude to her step mother and step sisters. But for one night she dresses like a lady and she walks in the Bridgerton house as a guest at Lady Bridgerton's masked ball.

Benedict Bridgerton attends his mother's ball with little enthusiasm but when meets a mysterious masked woman he is intrigued. They spent some time together and while she tells him nothing personal about her, she captivates his every thought. But she disappeares abruptly and he cannot locate her ever since.

A few years later at another, completely different party, which he enjoys very little Benedict rescues young maid from the dishonourable intentions of her master. But soon he realises that he doesn't feel mere sympathy for her but something so much more primal and impactful.

So Benedict is torn between his attraction to this irresistible but unsuitable woman and the mysterious lady that now lives only in his dreams. Nice, eh?

If only.

Well we could have gotten to the sweet and lovely ending without that nasty business in between.

I'd never read anything by Julia Quinn but this was fast paced and had lots of great character moments. I like the Bridgerton family and my favourite parts of the novel included them. Overall I enjoyed it!

I was unsure about this book at first because the beginning was basically just Cinderella... but it went so much deeper with its own storyline. I love love stories.

(only reviewing now because I reread it in the middle of the night?

Criteria for a quality Bridgerton review (usually each is one star, but I have six categories)

Bridgerton Character: Benedict is an absolute asshole. He doesn’t respect Sophie in the slightest and tries to coerce her at every turn. I skip over many of his scenes while reading. No star here.

Partner: Sophie isn’t my favorite, but she’s still sort of a baller. She has an interesting arc and I do appreciate her tenacity. I would give her a half star.

Interactions with siblings: Meh. All kind of boring, honestly, even though they are so kind to Sophie. I suppose I expect more out of my siblings, and the other books are just so much better at it. No stars here, could be stronger.

Interactions with Violet: INCREDIBLE. Truly makes up for most of the book. From her lovely conversations with Ben about love and how he can love whoever he wishes to her brilliant streak at the end, Violet is probably my favorite part of the book. This gets 1.5 stars.

Romance/Sex Scenes: I mean yeah. They’re hot. Julia Quinn classics. Half star.

Trope: As much as I love a Cinderella story, I hate how this all could’ve been resolved with a simple conversation. It wasn’t the good kind of drawn out. Don’t get me wrong, this is still one of my comfort books, but it’s just not my favorite.

Overall: this gets 2.5 stars from me but I am the type to round up so it gets a Goodreads 3. Honestly the other half star comes from Posy, as she was truly the best character and deserves her own novel, not just her own second epilogue. I would read more about Posy in a heartbeat.

And we’ve done it again folks, Bridgerton is the series that keeps on giving.

I was addicted from the very first second and literally just sat and listened to this putting off all other things I had to do.

These brothers are fighting for my love istg. They make it hard to choose between them. Benedict and Anthony are close.

This was a Cinderella retelling and it was done so well!

My only complaint is if Benedict asked Sophie to be his mistress one more time I was gonna challenge him to a duel.

But a part of him I loved was he teaches her how to dance when they first meet even though he doesn’t know who she is. He’s so polite!

I love Sophie so much, she deserves the world and so much better than the she was dealt.

It's a light hearted read that is entertaining, kind of reminds me of another version of the tale of Cinderella. I wouldn't say the storyline or characters are complex, and there's no surprises or twists. It's a good 'beach' read and a fast read.
