Great Start to the Waaaaghus Heresy

I had some trepidation picking this up and don't think I would have if I hadn't grabbed it in a sale and was finally going through my backlog, but this was a genuinely great start to an event series and I actually want to check the rest out now.

While it's impossible to replicate the Dark King and the Lightning Tower in a bottle of the Horus Heresy with it's history, characters, mythology, and the rest, this has great writing with a mix of perspectives, locations, and action with the absolute shambles of the aristocratic fascist Council of Terra and it's many unfriendly appendages.

I can only hope the rest of the series is as good.

I'm a total Toby Longworth fangirl, but I always forget how great Gareth Armstrong is and this is fantastic performance.

I think this is a weak entry.   There is a lack of fleshing anything out.   The areas of interest are not given the detail they deserve.   I think the skeleton of an interesting story is here, but it extremely bare bones. The last few pages actually gained some interest, you get to see some sparks of substance, however, I’m not dying to read the next entry any time soon.

This book is a very good start to this series. I really liked the characters and settings, and what’s set up near the end of the book is super exciting.

I think one of my favorite parts of this book is the mix of action and politics. One of my favorite parts of 40k is the political intrigue in some books, and this book has a mix of that and great action.

A good introduction. It's nice to see my Boyz portrayed as a little more intelligent and put-together than they usually are. WAAAGH! Onto the next.

I love Dan Abnett's Warhammer 40,000 books, they're my favorite palate cleanser from reading oh-so-serious nonfiction books.

My only real knock on the book was that it was so short, and it ends with absolutely everything up in the air. It was an almost perfect entry point into what I understand to be a planned year-long storyline with contributions by various authors. I can't wait for the next installment.
