I preferred this story much more in my reread!

Okay story

I think it would've been better if the second half was the focus and maybe set in the fall or winter. It also felt like the tone shifted when the more romance heavy scenes happened. Almost like Karry changed personalities.

Not enough emphasis on knitting and the resolution/grovel could've been better. As a knitter myself, I'm glad there wasn't any mistakes in knitting terminology, but I wish the focus had been on knitting or the yarn shop.

The good: STRONG secondary characters

The bad: This is an extremely repetitive book that spends WAY too much time on the characters' internal dialogue, to the point that not very much actually happens. When something 'interesting' does happen, so little has actually been said out loud that it doesn't seem justified. Very little actual talk of yarn or romance here. Too much time was spent on creating a family atmosphere that by the time any real chemistry starts to show its head, it feels uncomfortable and forced.

The two main characters have so little chemistry together that when they kiss at 75% it feels jarring and out of character. The end is extremely abrupt. However, I liked all the interactions with the 4 brothers, how they're dealing with their mother's death, and the yarn store. It's not good when I'm not interested in the romance part of a romance book. I'd probably read future books about the other brothers.

A sweet, cozy story... perhaps a little too low-keyed, but still enjoyable. Of course, as a knitter I really wanted to love it. I liked it, but it was just too slow-paced to love it. And there wasn't enough knitting in it!

I'm sure this is the beginning of a series, and because of that, a lot of the book was spent on background information on the family. Honestly, too much of the book. And the ending was rushed, so the romance ended up sketchy at best.

A note about the knitting content: Yes, the author is a knitter. But not a rabid Ravelry-is-my-Facebook knitter like me and my friends. A few of the terms were slightly off, and there were instances - like Kerry winding a skein of yarn into a ball rather than using a swift and yarn winder (which ANY shop would have) - that told me that Ms Jackson isn't as familiar with LYSs as much as I would wish. If the book centers around a yarn shop, maybe have a knitting fanatic read it before publishing?

Cover: Honestly, this is the very best part of the book. It's fantastic!
Narrator: She did a nice job.
Hogwarts Sorting Hat: I'm thinking Jesse is a Slytherin and Kerry is a Gryffindor.

Themes: Harlem, local yarn shop, grief, brothers, foster children (grown), knitting

Three stars only because I’m stingy, not because anything is “wrong” with the book. As a knitter, I obviously had a vested interest in the title. I loved the unraveling of how the family store went to one stubborn brother to a true family affair, uniting feuding-always-fighting-brothers - and even how one of the brother’s potential romantic life united the brothers. The fight to save the store and launch it was masterfully told and beautiful.

The romance….ehhhhhh. It was there. It was a simmer. Never really burned. Seemed very much like an affair of convenience - both for the characters and the plot - than any of level of true romance or affection.

Overall, still a great read! Just don’t expect to fall in love with a couple or even character with this one.

I really liked the knitting plot and keeping a cozy little yarn store open. Real men DO knit!! However, the romance wasn't totally satisfying for me. It felt like there was a chapter or two missing between Kerry not wanting to do anything about her feelings and her suddenly kissing Jesse. I also thought the conflict was a bit drawn out, and I find it frustrating when the only problem is that the characters aren't communicating their feelings and desires (which is the most common trope in romcoms but I'm tired of it)
