I read this book since it was on the 1001 Books to Read Before You Die list AND because it fulfilled the "read a book with a sandy/yellow cover" category for the GoodReads Summer Reading Challenge.

So, yeah, this book. It is a pessimistic take on relationships, tourism and more. Oh, and this book is definitely NC-17. Its told in the first person by a 40-something male protagonist who takes a trip to Thailand after his father dies.

The book is a cynical, misogynistic critique of modern Western society. Definitely not for everyone. I am still trying to figure out exactly where I land with this one.

Jævlig deprimerande, sjølv til Houllebecq å vere. Kanskje meir eit manifest enn ein roman, og i overkant mye pikk, fitte og orgasme.. Men verdt å lese likevel.

Pinlig bog.

Sex, rasism, stereotipuri, bani.

A French pervert goes a-humping in Thailand where he meets the love of his life. She's not a Thai prosti but a French lady travel exec. Together they hatch a plan to start a chain of horny resorts for sex tourists. All is going well until she gets killed by some angry Islams in one of their terrorist tantrums. The perv guy decides to die in the end. There's a lot of sex talk about peters and privates and some pretty frank talk about the aforementioned Islams.
