I lóve this book só much. I wasn't sure how the brother-situation would work out, but it was so well done. The humor in the story is so so so good. The monsters, the chicken (when you know, you know), the main characters, Karl, the friends, the town, the house.
Olivia, this was fabulous

CW: clinical depression, suicidal ideation, death of a 1 year old off page and in the past, but relatively detailed.

6+++ stars.

This book is a bit messy but so so so good.

I love that Olivia Dade often writes stories within stories. In the spoiler alert series we got fanfic. In this series we get monster erotica and it’s so much fun.

The monster erotica book club was SUCH A GREAT SCENE!! Olivia Dade is a queen!!!!

Take the CWs seriously for this one, but Dade writes with extreme care for her readers.

Maybe 3.5*s for me. There are several things I really liked about this book: the raw and tender portrayal of depression, the subtle but clear neurodivergence coding, the sensitive plus size representation. I also appreciated the characters quite a bit — they felt like complex humans, even when I didn't like their actions, decisions and behavior.

But at the same time, I got uncanny valley vibes from the character interactions: I didn't fully believe in the relationship between the characters as it was presented on page. Even with the dual POV I couldn't quite see what they saw in each other — even while I could see a whole lot to like in the characters, for me, their motivations and internal perceptions didn't match their actions and conclusions when it came to each other.
