My Thoughts

I really enjoyed this book. It was told in multiple viewpoints not to mention it was also told with evidence logs. I thought it was a really interesting way to go with this story and I really appreciated that. Even though it took me a bit to get into the story at the beginning (either it was just a slow beginning or it was because I was kind of in a reading slump) the writing flowed well and it kept me entertained and drawn to the story up until the end.

The main plot/storyline within this novel is that Kadence Mulligan is missing. And at first you love the girl and then you read the stories of what she has done and honestly, I think Kadence deserved what she got. She was just not a good person at all. She had fooled a lot of people for sure, but she was definitely not a good person. At the beginning there is only a couple of suspects and then the list gets bigger, because of how awful Kadence was.

I was able to figure out the ending, but I still enjoyed reading it and seeing how it all turned out. There is one twist that surprised me, and I am happy for that. And I thought it was a very enjoyable read and probably wouldn't mind rereading at some point. I think that if you're into mysteries, thrillers, or suspenseful novels, you should give this one a try because even though there were times that it dragged, once you got towards the ending, the story and the suspense just gripped you tightly! I thoroughly enjoyed this one!

This was really good! Super interesting! I didn't like how there were 4 perspectives to follow, but other than that, thumbs up!

Want a book you can't put down? This one's for you.

From the beginning I was drawn by the atmosphere of who and why, and I kept making assumptions until the end. The writing is gorgeous, the story is wonderfully executed, I was doubting everything and everyone.

Recommended. You'll enjoy it, I promise.

I can't review this without spoilers, but it's a 3.5 to me - pretty good, and I enjoyed it, but you can see the twist coming, and I didn't love that.

Now for spoilers!
SpoilerKadence is essentially Amy from Gone Girl, but on a teen scale. She's a little bit more than messed up, tries to personify the cool girl, and is sitting on the sidelines watching while someone takes the fall for her "kidnapping" or "death". I did really enjoy this book, but I wasn't more than maybe 30% through before it occurred to me that if we were a bit more skeptical of Kadence, it may look like she's the one in the wrong here and that she's just setting Lauren up. And that's how I gave away the ending for myself. It's a good read, though, and I'll still be recommending it to people!

A little confusing: I got what was going on with Kady, her incredibly nasty self-centeredness, but Lauren's vocal issues (could she talk? only croak? it was unclear from chapter to chapter) and Jude seemed conflicted about his motivations. Also, please, please please stop with the multiple POVs. It feels like a sloppy writing trend and needs to stop! As for the ending, wow. I didn't see that coming and ultimately, that's what saved the book from two stars.

(Thanks to NetGalley, I received an ebook copy of this book for free to review.)

This book is written in multiple points of view which is one of my favorite types of books to read. I love that dates and times were included at the beginning of each chapter. It made the timeline very easy to follow. The writing style was extremely straight forward, which helped the overall sense of the story and made it a really quick and easy read.I find it makes the story more interesting that some of the chapters are set up as interviews, videos, and some are just the character’s thoughts. It gives it a nice change and helps you stay interested in the story.
The character building in this book was some of the best I’ve come across in YA. You learn a lot about each character, but there is also a sense of mystery to each. They all have both good qualities and bad, personality wise, which makes them very relatable. It also gives you a reason to question whether or not to believe them, which keeps the air of mystery alive. The chapters featuring Kady’s YouTube videos were some of my favorites because they helped you get into her head and let her true personality shine through.
Overall this book was hard to put down, I just kept wanting to turn the pages to see which twists were coming next. It had me on the edge of my seat, which has been extremely rare as of late. As a side note I like that the story slightly touched on cyber bullying through YouTube comments, as this is an ongoing issue in society right now.

I started this book thinking it was a different one with the same title, by a different author. When I realized I had chosen the wrong book, I thought I’d still give it a try. I got through a few chapters but it reads like a Fanfiction, and that’s just not the style of writing I’m interested in anymore. The concept isn’t flawed at all, I just found it hard to read through since I don’t read Fanfiction (anymore….).

I really enjoyed this book. I liked taking a look at the behind the scenes of youtube famous people as well as the characters. The story took so many twists and turns; they continued right up until the end. The characters were multi-layered, constantly revealing new pieces, parts and facets of themselves. While this is a mystery/thriller with a twist, it wasn't as dark as many of them are and I appreciated that. Over all, good read!
