This book deserves all the praise, it was written by such a brave young woman who was captured by ISIS. Her story is brave, emotional and grueling.

But, wow! She is making such a difference to other women and people and her voice is being heard. Everyone should read this book, you will be upset and you will be horrified but it’s an important story. So powerful, poignant and well written. The Last Girl is extraordinary.

“I want to be the last girl in the world with a story like mine.”

Mitä muuta tälle vois ees antaa ku 5 tähteä? Ei todellakaan mikään nautinnollinen lukukokemus, mutta niin tärkeä lukea ja opettavainen.

Devastating and incredible. I loved reading about the author’s small town and her life before her capture. The rest of the book is a horrifying story and so important for us to know. Whew I don’t know how I’ll recover from this one.

Unfortunately, this very important book was also very boring. It is told in such a lifeless manner that I found it hard to read at times. There’s A LOT of background knowledge on Yazidis, which albeit interesting was also distracting as it led to some jumps in the timeline that were confusing. What this book really needs is some honest and thorough editing.
The story itself is heartbreaking of course but I just couldn’t feel for it as much as I would have if it had been edited more and written less matter-of-factly.

This is such an important and brave account of horrible events experiences by Nadia and also by so many thousands of innocent people. I found the beginning of this book a bit hard to follow (learning the context and history of different geography and religious groups in Iraq) but it was important to understand motivations behind the rest of the book. I am overwhelmed by the horrible things that happened and that are still happening to minority groups in Iraq and I hope that the terrorists face some justice soon.

Silmiä avaava.

Aika usein unohtuu, kuinka hyvin asiat Suomessa oikeasti on. On terveellistä mielelle lukea muualla maailmassa tapahtuvista asioista, jotta osaa olla kiitollinen siitä, mitä itsellä on, ja oppii ymmärtämään paremmin, kuinka paljon tehtävää on vielä toisaalla maailmassa muiden ihmisten olojen vuoksi.
