Interesting... Felt very much like the baddies from the original Avengers film but we get Wolverine and Captain Marvel thrown in the mix. Probably my favorite parts and saving grace were the banter between the characters. Pretty fun how much shit that they gave each other. Particularly Hawkeye.

I like the way this one ties into the marvel universe comic continuity. And almost ties in to the movies except that Logan and Carol Danvers is there. But otherwise this one is a swing and a miss. It was actually somewhat okay until Thor appeared. Thor in the comics is just completely annoying. Basically this is a plot driven and the plot is not all that interesting. Actually I kind of liked the mercenary shooting drones out of the air the best. Okay enough art.

There were some very delightful and some very weird moments in this. Some of the characters were reduced to one-note ideas despite recent developments for accessibility (Steve is more than just pining for the past! Clint is not always the kicked dog!), but Thor and Tony were thoughtful and funny by turns, and Carol is just A+.
All of the action sequences were also excellently coordinated in a way that battle scenes in comics often aren't, but hey - this is Ellis.

Held off for awhile because I wanted this to be great and worried that my excitement for the project would instantly lead me to disappointment. In the end, the book was too long for what it was and too short for what it could of been. Ellis' effort to weave real world parallels into an exploration of the main characters' psyches is admirable yet feels disjointed in the story's presentation with the artwork by McKone. The intention to use Endless Wartime as a comic book jumping on point for new readers post-Avengers film fans feels there in the beginning, but gets lost along the way as the book's theme struggles to overcome the story's threat visually. Perhaps what I really wanted here was an Avengers Global Frequency-esque one shot I could initiate people with.

Good and bad points, here. Good points: Clint Barton's speech to Cap at the end was great. Also, the Hulk/Bruce Banner's entire was gold, the whole way through. I loved how he identified with the creatures. And contrary to what some people think, I thought the art was pretty good. The Iron Man suit was badass looking! (Even though it broke 3 times?? I think the writer should have more faith in Tony) Bad points: uh hh characterization whaaah? For basically everyone. They kept making fun of hawkeye, which I get in like the new trend in comics recently, but it seems cruel of the Avengers to do so incessantly. I've been in friend groups where I'm always the butt of the joke, so I sympathized with Clint instead of laughing at him like the writers seemed to want. Also, flimsy plot is flimsy.
All in all, passing good, but doesn't hold up to much scrutiny.

Warren Ellis can write Wolverine dialog almost as well as Joss Whedon. Laughed out loud several times
I liked the Nazi ice dragon maggot super weapons. Good adversaries.
Rhythm was weird. We jarringly transitioned into several substantial flashbacks.
Hawkguy is funny.

I thought I would love this because I usually love Warren Ellis's work, but there was something very wrong with the avengers in this comiic. The group dynamic wasn't working and I felt like no-one really got along. It just felt strange to me.

Näin ei ole käynyt, vaan teos on surkea, jonka vuoksi annan sille vain 1 tähden.

Not a huge comic fan, but I don't think this is the best. Most of the book is seeing the team being together and bickering, and the main plot is just... not that interesting. The art is good (most comic art is good these days), but I don't love the Steve Rogers or Black Widow designs (Though the Captain America design is fine).
Also, I have a specific gripe with some of the Hulk pannels; they're not dynamic. They don't convey motion very well, unlike the rest of the action scenes. They just look like time was stopped around the Hulk. Idk, maybe it's just me.
