Read this as a buddy read, so putting my comments in from that chat.

Up to Chapter 7
Spoiler
Yeah I was disappointed as well it wasn't another family member but I'm very much enjoying it also!

I like Rob, but I'm more invested in the Helen and Sully romance. Not sure why but they seem more interesting for me. Maybe because I want Sully to have a happy ending too.

Oh that poor pair of teenagers. I can't see this ending well to be honest. Just a feeling.

I think I'll wait and read to chapter 14 tomorrow and then weds again I won't be reading. Going to aim to finish thursday. I don't want to rush this but its hard to stop!!

Up to chapter 14
Spoiler
You'd have thought a doctor character would not be so likely to have an accidental pregnancy!!!

Yeah I like Helen & Sully. Very sweet

Finished
Spoiler
Yeah Leigh annoyed me. Good on Helen for sticking up for herself. I think we forget our elder relatives are people and have wants and needs too

Can't say this was my favourite too. Yeah I actually agree. This was fine, I wanted more for Rob.

Sully and Helen were the bit I enjoyed the most. They were so sweet. And it just worked.

The Best of Us by Robyn Carr is delightfully charming romance featuring two love stories. Although this newest release is the fourth installment in the Sullivan's Crossing series, it can be read as a standalone.

Dr. Leigh Culver has no regrets about relocating to the small town of Timberlake. She is enjoying the slower pace and her new friendship with camp ground owner Sully. Having had her heart broken years earlier by her high school sweetheart, Leigh is not looking for love. But after pub owner Rob Shandon brings his teenage son Finn to the clinic for stitches, she is surprised when he asks her out. Since the widowed father of two is not looking for a permanent relationship, Leigh sees no harm in dating him. Their not so secret romance takes an unexpectedly serious turn but is Leigh ready to commit to a future with Rob?

Leigh's aunt Helen is a retired school teacher and a successful author. Having raised Leigh after her sister's death, Helen is enjoying the freedom to travel and visit friends across the country.  After selling her house in Illinois, she plans to spend the summer with Leigh while working on her current novel.  After her niece introduces her to Sully, Helen begins spending quiet, slow-paced days with him his campground.  Despite having little in common, Sully and Helen become fast friends and both are shocked to discover their feelings go deeper than friendship.

Leigh and Rob's relationship is sizzling hot but they do not plan on their romance becoming serious. Rob is the first to realize he is falling in love but Leigh tends to keep him at an emotional distance.  Leigh is not exactly ready to admit to herself that she might feel more for Rob than lust, but her memories of her previous heartbreak still haunt her. When circumstances force them to consider a future together, will Rob convince Leigh to consider taking their relationship to the next level?

The Best of Us by Robyn Carr is a sweet novel of family, friendship and love. All of the characters are well-drawn and multi-dimensional. Rob and Leigh's relationship is quite passionate but Leigh has a lot of a growing to do before she is ready to risk her heart again.  Helen and Sully's romance is quite endearing and tugs on readers' heartstrings. The tight-knit community welcomes newcomers into their fold and the small town setting is quite homey. This newest addition to the Sullivan's Crossing series is a warm and heartfelt novel that old and new fans are sure to love.

First book of 2019!

The Best of Us, fourth book of the Sullivan's Crossing series, takes place in a small town called Timberlake, Colorado. It's the perfect place for Dr. Leigh Culver, who recently moved from Chicago looking for a more relaxing lifestyle. She's selfish, judgemental, and has a lot to learn if she's going to open her heart for local pub owner, Rob. Rob's son, Finn, is in his first serious relationship during his last year of high school. Leigh's Aunt Helen is a retired teacher and author, who raised Leigh after her mother died when she was young. When Helen comes to visit Leigh she strikes up an unexpected relationship. This quick read is a character-driven, feel-good story about friendship, family, and romance.

There are a lot of characters, many mentioned in the first chapter. It felt like an overwhelming info-dump. I almost gave up reading when I was almost a quarter into the book because I wasn't enjoying the writing style at all, however, something happens and that's it - hooked till the end (and even shed some tears).

Sullivan's Crossing, the campground owned by Sully, is a charming place. Sully, a 72-year-old, is my favourite character. He's smart, gentle, kind, and funny. I haven't read any of the other books in the series (and had no idea it was part of a series when I requested the ARC on Netgalley), but I would like to read more stories by Carr if they take place at Sullivan's Crossing.

There were many little things that made this story feel very dated:
1. Referring to salad and diet coke as "girl food"
2. "doesn't look like he could've been the kind of kid to get picked on" because the kid was good-looking.
3. Why in the world would a 34-year-old woman bring her Aunt on a first date?
4. What's the problem with an unmarried pregnant woman?

I recommend this one to adult readers who enjoy a sweet romance story.

Setting: 3/5

Message: 2.5/5
Overall: 2.4 It was O.K.

I so enjoy Robyn Carr's series, for their gentleness in telling the story of a community and of families within that community, involving people that are recognizable, dealing with real problems, some dark, some self-made, others that are merely surprises that take you along a different route than planned.

This is her 4th in the series set in a small Colorado mountain town near Leadville and Breckenridge, territory I have visited since my sister lives nearby. The story centers on the town's Urgent Care doctor and her aunt, the owner of the local pub and his sons, and of course Sully and his family out at the Sullivan's Crossing Campground and General Store. Romance of course happens for all, with some bumps along the way, including a medical trauma for one of the teens in the story, yet all ends in a good place. We also get updates on the couples and families encountered earlier in the series, all in a very natural way. I love these books for the straightforward stories they deliver.
