I liked the hopelessness and trickiness of the story but hated the info-dump and the conclusion.

I read this without knowing anything about The Bone Clocks, which is set in the same universe apparently. As such, the ending came completely out of nowhere for me, which greatly dampened my enjoyment of the book overall. I read other reviews after the fact that said this book stands alone from The Bone Clocks, but I'm not sure I would agree.

I thought this book was a really cool idea and even though I haven't read the book that goes with this one, I still really liked my time spent with it overall.
my favorite story is a tie between the second to last one and the last one as they both were told really interestingly and even though the second to last one in the bar is a little bit of a horror trope, I always find it a really cool idea that is always gets me a little race in my heart.

A solid 4, I'm giving bonus points because I really liked how it was written.

what a fascinating book! i bought it on a complete whim and i just loved it. what an insane story. i really loved that we only a spent a little time with each new character but still really got to know them - they were so well developed with different humour, accents, wants - it impressed me anyway.
i also loved how at the end, norahs realisation at her aging paralleled all the twins’ victims when they noticed they couldn’t breathe - so clever
genuinely recommend this so much. very glad i read it! compared with the only other horror/thriller i’ve read - the turn of the screw - this was so much better and i’m glad i have discovered that not all books in the genre are convoluted and boring
