A cute story that makes me yearn for the old days of a younger Russell struggling with a stubborn Holmes.

A short story (definitely not a novella) in which Mrs. Hudson, aided occasionally by Mary, gets the better of Sherlock Holmes. Sort of. It's fun if you're already a fan, but won't make much sense unless you already know the characters. Chronologically, it takes place during The Beekeeper's Apprentice, so it's best to read at least that book first.

This is very good. I love the description at the beginning of the story of what Mrs. Hudson thought about Holmes vacating 221B, her reaction to the new tenants, and how and why she ultimately chose to stay connected to that insufferable genius of a man.
I think it would not be a stretch to say that Holmes was a wreck without her, and quite frankly she without him. When the better part of 3 or 4 decades are spent in a certain lifestyle changing those habits so completely is often difficult if not impossible, as our favorite detective and apparently his "long suffering landlady" elucidate with crystalline perfection.
I would love to see more stories short or long beyond the burgeoning King cannon. This story and Beekeeping for Beginners has made me very hungry indeed for these stories from Holmes point of view or looks into their lives beyond the cannon.

A short mystery featuring Russell and Mrs. Hudson, with Holmes in the background. Small thefts have been occurring in homes around the area and Mrs. Hudson has noticed things missing as well. When Holmes can't be bothered to look into it, Mary agrees to set up a camera to catch the thief in the act. Then she returns to her university classes, but becomes concerned when she doesn't hear from Mrs. Hudson. She knows Holmes is off working on a kidnapping case, so she is very worried and decides to follow up on her concerns.
I love this glimpse of Mrs. Hudson and Russell dealing with a situation that Holmes feels is not worthy of his involvement.

I was very keen to read Mrs Hudson's Case and this was a lot of fun. I loved Hudson's attitude and insistence on catching the fiend instead of deterring them. I wasn't impressed with The Beekeeper's Apprentice although I do intend to continue with King's reimagined Holmes series and this short story also featuring Mary Russell is a good motivation to get back into it.

A sweet short story about Sherlock Holmes' housekeeper, Mrs. Hudson, and her daring rescue of...well you will just have to read about it.

It's only 14 pages. It counts! I was a little sad that the action all seemed to happen "off stage" as it were, but it was an excellent way to spend a lunch hour.
