Nice pace and a few twists

I read purely for escapism-and this was a great book for that. Fun characters were introduced and there were some great twists.

Linda from Pop Culture Happy Hour recommended this book during her podcast...and I took note. She is a smart, fun person....so I thought I might agree with her recommendations. I was happily surprised with how much I enjoyed this book. This is not deep literature...this is fun, chick lit...with brains. I enjoyed her smart comparisons to fun recent happenings...and I ended up not wanting to put the book down.

The story is silly, but the telling is fun...and you find yourself not wanting to put the book down to go to bed/work.
It tells the story of an awkward, but of course, gorgeous woman who falls for the security guard that escorts her out of her building the day she is fired. So many misunderstandings (a lot of them obvious) that I couldn't help wondering if the woman didn't have Aspergers...but the story was fun, the happy happenings were fun...and I loved that she belonged to a knitting club, but didn't knit.

Read if you need a break of the serious...and want to enjoy a book that gives you warm fuzzies.

I really liked the characters in this, even though I feel like Reid tried way too hard to make her heroine quirky in an adorable way. (I mostly just found her exasperating and annoying by turns but I also felt some sympathy for her social awkwardness.) Her hero is pretty two-dimensional, and I have 0 clue what the plot actually was, except for it being a hot mess, however, because I felt like the thing with the sister was stupid and also overly complicated, and that was pretty much it. I cared more about the knitting circle than an perceived danger from the people after Janie's sister, and that says pretty much all that needs to be said. I'm also going to say that it the main drama of the plot was introduced way too late as well. Reid clearly wanted to focus on a reluctant romance, but since the narrator felt no real urgency towards the main conflict--indeed didn't even know it existed for 80% of the book--I didn't care either. Which kind of sums up my thoughts on this book. I liked the characters but didn't care about the plot at all, which really good characters and a coherent plotline will make you do.

Janie loves trivia and puts it in every conversation. After discovering her boyfriend with someone else, she is out of place and then she gets fired the same day. Luckily the cute security guard, who she was secretly watching escorted her out and put her in a limo.

He later offers her a job. There is chemistry between them and they fall fast and hard for each other.

My favourite part of the book was the knitting club, that Janie was a part of. I greatly struggle with the book. I think that the point was for Janie to come across as very smart, but her verbal diarrhoea slows down the story to the point, that I had no idea what is going on.

While I like the idea behind the story, I didn't like Janie. I think she was meant to come across as quirky and super smart, but I didn't get that vibe. More like the opposite - she was controlled by both guys and had trouble staying in the present. She likes to escape and disassociate from reality to the point that stuff just happens around her, without her being a part and she just goes with the flow. Not my kind of story.
