3.5 ⭐️ this book captured so well the lingering grief that follows heartbreak and how it manifests itself in all different areas of life.

I was really looking forward to reading this debut as the author writes for Schitt’s Creek, but unfortunately sets a high expectation and it wasn’t as funny or as sweet. The book takes the point of view of Maggie, getting divorced at 29 after under 2 years of marriage. I don’t more if the author is divorced herself but there were some moments in this that felt so accurate. The protagonist is self-absorbed and indulgent which can be quite irritating, but in time I saw this as a way of the author showing how difficult it can be to be around her, which other characters feel. At times this reminded me a bit of the tv show Girls, but with less celebration. This dragged a bit but I’m glad I finished it.

Some realistic bi representation always appreciated though!

Unbearable and insufferable main character who needs to give her head a wobble. The one star is to myself for finishing the book

A funny book overall but a bit scattered. Many side characters introduced without much purpose or good contents.

This book was everything I needed and more so this rate is biased due to my own personal journey on breakups.

This was like listening to myself talk from beginning to end. The whole thing felt chaotic, depressing and hopeful (just like every single breakup ever). I had a bunch of moments were it was difficult to continue cause it was like looking myself in the mirror and it was hard and painful and reminded me of a bunch of things I personally try not to think much about.

This book was also the perfect length. Nothing felt unnecessary to me and the way the author keeps it so real through the whole book makes this one of my favorite readings this year. Truly amazing!

just too long

I really wanted to like this book more. The book effectively describes a break up (in this case a divorce) and the various responses to such a situation. Parts of the story felt very real and relatable and had the book been shorter I think I would have reviewed it higher. However by page 250 the fact of Maggie still wallowing in the same thoughts and issues as the very start of the book was becoming repetitive and tedious.

This is great material for a TV show. It's weird when you kind of dislike the main character, you think they remind you of someone and then realise that someone is yourself. Jokes on me
