Another gem in the Oz series. I love reading these books along with my kids. For simple, homespun enjoyment, written to bring joy to children, I cannot recommend any of the Oz books highly enough.

Another one with a plot! Not just wandering aimlessly.

There are way too many of these books, all with the same plot
So I will give them all the same review

Another Oz book. Another set of new-ish characters (and just a few old ones) on a travelogue to Oz. Sure it's a formula but not done too badly here. The Ork's are a bit of a standout, basically a kind like a bird but with propellers. And there is an evil witch and berries that make you smaller and bigger. It actually read fairly pleasantly though clearly shows its age.

It's been a little while since I gave one of the Oz books five full stars, but this one got me! As with Tik-Tok of Oz, the title didn't really fit this book, but I don't even care this time! The Scarecrow didn't show up until the last 50 or so pages, but he did end up coming in to save the day so I sorta get it.

This book, I feel, really got back to the roots of how The Wizard of Oz was initially written: quick, exciting adventures, lots of new and silly characters and places, and a fair amount of quick wit. I read it in one sitting. I'm now about two-thirds of the way through the main series and still have every intention of continuing on to the end!
