I absolutely loved this!!! Obviously it wasn’t as nuanced as the books I usually read as it’s written for much younger audiences but otherwise I really really enjoyed this and didn’t find it being middle grade to be an issue at all

I thought it was amazing at first: whimsical, imaginative, mysterious. But the quirkiness became overwhelming, the rules didn't make much sense and thus the mystery lost its appeal. We also have the mandatory Mean Rich Girl and the Good White Dude. Eeeh... meh.
Another problem I had with the story is that a chunk of kids get derogatory symbols (ranks) they have to display on the uniform and that are based on their 💫potential💫. It feels really unnecessary but I guess it's OK because the MC has the highest rank.
I'm obviously not the target audience though, so I'm not at all saying it's a bad book.

This was fun! I thought there were a few pacing issues - particularly near the end, it felt very rushed - but overall, I really enjoyed this. It gives off strong Percy Jackson vibes, which made it feel like a whimsical nostalgic romp. A lighthearted and adventurous read for middle-graders and adults alike!

Moderate: Bullying
The prejudice/bullying Amari experiences is for being a magician, where people whose special talent is specifically magic are distrusted. It's therefore Fantasy Prejudice and may be somewhat easier to stomach than bullying on real-life things.
