I love both Sherlock Holmes and dinosaurs...
I hated this book soooooo much.
It's just super not very good, and super imperialistic, god save the queen don'tchaknow, creepy rich, educated white men going off into the 'wilderness', to discover great things for (Man) science.
I dunno, it's been a while since I read it, but at the same time as its supreme fucked-edness it just didn't grab me in the way I expect a book about dinosaurs to grab me.
I mean come on, it's about dinosaurs, dinosaurs are AWESOME, how can you fuck that up?

This book was fantastic. I read it after reading Michael Crichton's saga (Jurassic Park), and I must say that this book definitely lays the foundations for every adventure and/or dinosaur-related book.

Regarding dinosaurs, they are not extensively discussed. The "characters" of Tyrannosaurs or Velociraptors are not overly exaggerated. Instead, they are vaguely mentioned, almost like antagonistic entities. In this story (because we're talking about a "story" here!), dinosaurs are seen as "ordinary" animals: they hide and hunt in the forest, without being extremely intelligent (which dinosaurs weren't!) and without stalking the protagonists of the book.

I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 only because it's not a book that captivated me. It certainly didn't make me set aside all my other commitments to read it (as happens with 5-star books), but it was certainly a pleasant read.

Some other girl and guy
Would love this swirling sky
But there's only you and I
And we've got, no shot.

This could never be
You're not the type for me
And there's not a spark in sight
What a waste of a lovely; book.

It was nice to get to know Conan Doyle from a new perspective as the author of not only Sherlock Holmes. I reaaly liked this book about adventures. I assume this is the best for reading middle school boys.
