It was the first time I read a book written by B. B. Reid and I didn't know what to expect.
What I didn't expect was an ending like this one. I'm so messed up... I need to know the answers. This book was so full of mistery and hatred. It was a combination between a fucked up romance and an even more fucked up family.
And even tho I shouldn't have liked it... I did. Keiran was such a manipulator and at the same time such a fool. And Lake was so perfect for a dominated character.
The title was also perfectly fit.
Sometimes I felt sorry for Lake, but damn it, she was too coward. She could've act differently. So should've done Willow.
Anyway... it was a good book. Because it was full of suspense and that's what a reader is looking for.
Quotes I liked:
“The day was halfway over and I kept thinking about the second I could escape this hell but then I remembered you could never actually leave hell when you sold your soul to the devil himself.”
“But their relationship is theirs, not someone else’s.”
“What is up with them anyway? They are so hypocritical and bossy. It’s always ‘do what I say’, ’now’, ‘no’, ‘mine’. “Me Tarzan, you Jane. Now bend over!”
“"Quit licking me!” Willow screamed.
“There was cotton candy on your face!”"
“And isn’t it ironic that the very person who kept your love life non-existent now consumes it?”
“Pain was forever. It was love that didn’t last forever.”

A have a few very specific red flags in romance books but one of them is FMCs sl*tshaming or calling other women names that degrade the amount of schmex they have or are rumoured to have (like calling someone a c*mbucket repeatedly

I was going to DNF at 40%, however I pushed thru. I know it is dark romance but this was not it. The FMC has the personality of a beige doormat. Actually, all the female characters were dumb and spineless. The MMC showed no redeeming qualities and had the worst personality.
The whole jr assassins storyline is beyond weird. Maybe IF the story had taken place in college and not freaking high school and IF he would have been in the assassin business as a young adult, and not a 4 year old, the book might have been decent.
Will I continue the series? Who knows…

If you are a fan of the Devils Night series, I guarantee you will love this! Not only was I hooked by the first few pages, I was also on the edge of my seat needing to know what happened next!
Keiran has hated Lake since they first met when they were kids. No one knows why he bullies her and hates her so much.
He’s been gone almost a year and comes back to get revenge on Lake. He thinks she framed him. He now wants to own her. But once he gets his first taste, he can’t stop.

4/5 Spice level
Possible trigger warnings: [email protected] vibes, kidnapped vibes, controlling male, blackmail/ threats, murder
Pros:
Alpha Males
Good Friendship circle and entertaining friendship banter
Crime
A good lead in for book 2
Dark, but not too dark (no gore or extreme violence)
Cons:
There is a poorly developed shift in the middle of the book regarding two characters personalities. Now suddenly both personalities are completely different?
There is a lull in the middle of the book, a few chapters couldve been edited out
