iris is a tightrope dancer who can’t die. this, combined with her lack of memories from the past, leaves her desperate to find out who she really is. she meets adam, a member of an order called the enlightenment committee, who seems to know a lot about her. he tells her that the world is ending, and the committee will decide who does and doesn’t live. adam wants iris to be in the former category, and if she agrees to be his champion, he’ll tell her the truth of who she is. but the more she finds out, the more she wonders if she really does want to know everything.

this was my first sarah raughley book, and i will definitely be reading more of hers in the future. i liked so many things about this book, including the setting, the tournament, the reveals, and especially iris herself. i can’t wait to continue this journey in book two!

I was really excited for the premise of this book, and there are a few themes that I still feel were excellent and unique additions.

But, this is a DNF about halfway through part 2. The pacing is slow, the characters are erratic, and I think the book overall suffers from a lack of clarity and cohesion, especially considering how lengthy it is.I think with a stronger edit, this could have been an amazing read.

I can't go into too much detail because I'm still reeling from all the emotions I'm feeling from the end of the book. I absolutely loved it! I loved the characters, the world-building, and the execution, it was all fantastic. I've been craving a story like this for a long time and I am so happy I found this book. There were multiple moments that had me making funny facial expressions on public transport because I can't control my emotions.

I don't usually like love triangles, but I always love a well-done love triangle. My favourite love triangles are the ones when I can't choose between them and that's what I got here! My heart was breaking at points but that's how I know a story is engaging

A little bit of hunger games, a dash of Xmen , mix in some historical fantasy and some very exciting action and you have The Bones of Ruin . I flew through the second half of this book and you are left with only questions that I will have to wait for the next book to answer.
