I was hooked the first 100 pages. I loved how we jumped right into the story and Persephone and Hades meet very early on. Then we enter this really repetitive cycle of her disliking him, him angering her, them lusting after one another and something minority sexual happens until something splashes cold water on the situation.

It picked up whenever they finally had sex but I was too checked out and annoyed with the characters by then. The problem is that Persephone really is immature and childish.

Also, I hate these stories of “female empowerment” and how “badass women are” when men are the entire catalyst for the charge. In this story Hades is right about nearly everything and literally forces Persephone into growth, taking away nearly all of her agency. It just doesn’t sit right with me.

TW:
Revenge porn plot line towards the end (not by Hades)

This was a very easy adult read that I got through extremely quickly. Many (many many) spicy scenes and lusty comments/thoughts. There wasn’t a lot of plot or backstory in this book, and Persephone annoyed me with how deliberately she distrusted Hades even when he answered her questions. And her jealousy towards Minthe was ridiculous and very contrived. This book was a fun time, but not a well-written time (though it wasn’t poorly written, it was just average). Bumped up to a 4 because I couldn’t wait to read the next book and absolutely devoured this one. I did really enjoy the world of this book- a modern day Greece with gods/goddesses being the famous people of the world.

The world-building was done beautifully and I felt fully immersed in 'New Athens.' While it's mainly a romance novel, I think there is something to be said about the friendships in the book, about women supporting women and protecting and inspiring each other. If you're a girl's girl and like some spice to your books, this is a great book for you.

Excellence romance Greek mythology smut book. I loved Persephone, loved Hades, hated everyone all up in their business. I loved the plot and the dynamic. Also had the perfect amount of smut for me. It was a good storyline and easy read. I’m going to listen to the next in the series.

I’m a sucker for a Hades/Persephone pairing, and this was no exception. I loved the use of the gods as figures of celebrity. This mythical universe is deeply desirable. The setting is immersive and full of life (and death). 100% would read again.

A Touch of Darkness by Scarlett St. Clair is a retelling of sorts, of the romance between Greek Mythology's God of the Underworld, Hades and Goddess of Spring, Persephone. Persephone, who is pretending to be a human college student (and not a Goddess) when her and her roommate decide to go to the new popular club in town, owned by non other than Hades himself. Through a series of events
Persephone ends up in a contract with Hades. Before the time is up, Persephone will have to create life within the Underworld or she'll have to stay down there forever.

This was really cute. I really enjoyed the banter between Hades and Persephone and I liked where the storyline ended up going. I found the first half of this to be a little slow, but once things started moving along faster it also got more interesting.

I really loved all the erotic scenes, they were great. I forgot to count how many they were but the spice level was high up there, I'd said 4 🌶️ chilies/ out of 5🌶️  chilies

I'm giving this 4.5 stars out of 5, I liked it a lot more than I liked Neon Gods by Katee Robert but I don't like how slow the beginning half of the novel is.
