Amazing first book of the larten crepsley story, it good to find out how his story started, you meet some interesting people as the story unfolds, but doesn't give to much away and makes you want to read the rest of books in the series

Having been a massive fan of the original Darren Shan saga, hearing the story of 'where it all started' with the story of Larte Crepsley really appealed to me. Basically, this book outlines the basics of Larten's life before he became a vampire, and then some of the events afterward - including how he met Mr Tall, where the name of his alias, Vur Horsten, came from, and his first meetings with Mr Tiny.

Shan's writing style is much the same as it was in the original saga, and indeed in The Demonata series, of which I have read one book. I found it enjoyable, and found it to be fairly light reading for me - it lasted one day (in which I had a lot of spare time) and a train journey. However, this isn't a complaint - it's actually a compliment, given how quickly I read it!

This kindle edition of the book is well done, and had I had time, I would have picked up the paperback instead, but the edition was well done and well formatted, so top marks for that.

I'd highly reccomend this to anyone who enjoyed the Darren Shan saga.

AHHHH BRILLIANT!!!
Like all Darren SHan books, this was phenomenal!!!
I loved it, it really set up the rest of the series and I'm DYING to get my hands on book two.
This was a wonderful book, very enjoyable, and the last page made me shake from anticipation.
It really made me remember some of the things Mr.Crepsley murmed in the Cirque Du Freak series about his past, and now I look forward to the full story behind some of the things Larten mentioned in Cirque Du Freak.
Awesome Shan, you've done it again :D

“You do not have to be alone. The world never inflicts loneliness upon us. That is something we choose or reject by ourselves.”

I'm so glad that I found this gem of a series. I absolutely loved the Cirque Du Freak> series and Darren Shan has done it again. Larten Crepsley's childhood was not how I expected - full of regret, pain, and doubt. Although I sincerely enjoyed this first book, I'm hoping that the following books have a bit more action.

3.25 Much more darker than the Saga of Darren Shan. The beginning was great up, up until Larten meets Seba.
I'm not saying that this book was bad by any means, but it did feel rushed. I guess I kept wanting more pages to fill in the gaps. The jumps in time felt abrupt.
Anyway, I love Darren's writing. I'm looking forward to reading the next book in the series.
