I don't think atmospheric horror is my genre.  I really tried liking this book because I thought House of Ghosts was good.  I think it was just too slow moving for me.

As someone who doesn’t know much about the civil war in the 1920s I was quite lost. I didn’t get attached to any character and I struggled to finish it. It was just very boring to me. Didn’t make me care to know who killed who and what happened unfortunately.

I really enjoyed the inclusion of the war flashbacks, it made the story more authentic and realistic. The mystery was pretty neat and I'm a huge fan of anything related to Irish history

Love a book with twists that I didn't predict.

Slow. It's not exactly what I was expecting. But it is a really good story. It follows Harkin and IRA intelligence officer and he is investigating Mauds death. He goes into her history and who she was dating or who she was seeing and people that she was in contact with and finds out secrets that she had and is working the story to see what exactly happened to Maud and why. The investigation continues. He finds things and connections that he wasn't expecting. He also has his own connection to Maud in the past and he is trying to figure out and where people lie in the allegiance as well as any secrets that the family may have. I was surprised at what did happen to Maud.
