Not really my style. However, it was highly recommended by my mom, who enjoys mystery novels that are pleasant and not at all dark far more than I do.

When I started this book I grew attached to the first character that was introduced so imagine my shock when she's the one who dies! I was so sure it'd be the other sister, Betsy! But I still enjoyed it nonetheless because the author did a great job taking her time to develop all characters and I didn't feel like there was an abrupt change in the pacing.

The mystery element in itself was very intriguing as well and the only thing that prevented it from becoming a 5 star read for me was all the needlework talk, NOT MY FORTE at all!

I enjoyed this book. It was a nice, relaxing, easy book to read. It had suspense along with interesting characters. I'm very glad that I have found another series to read.

This is a solid cozy mystery. The mystery itself is interesting and not completely straightforward, which as a person who has read way too many mysteries, I appreciated. There were a few things that annoyed me about it thought. The book is dated. Of course, it was published in 1999, but you could really tell in the way the characters talked to and about each other, let alone the use of phone books, lack of cell phones, etc. I also didn't love the implied disdain for Betsy's love of food and her weight at the beginning. It felt insulting as a plus sized reader. Especially when Hud said he liked bigger women but only when no one was watching...

This was okay, but dragged a bit. Also, since I didn't read the back (I downloaded it from Audible), I didn't realize Margot was the victim. I found this a bit jarring, since the whole beginning of the book seemed to be setting up the series with Margot as the main character. So, for me, the victim was a shock. The perpetrator, unfortunately, was not. I figured this one out very quickly.

This was a fun start to a a new (to me) cozy mystery series. Part of the fun was that it took place in downtown Excelsior, MN in hte 90s, a place where I pretty much grew up and now work nearby. This book also broke the mold of the "typical" cozy mysteries I've been reading lately because first, we got to know the character that was killled for quite a few chapters beforehand (usually in cozy mysteries the person killed is not someone the reader hears a lot about). Second, while the main characters spends the book trying to solve the mystery, it didn't feel like she was this aggressive sleuth who stopped at nothing to solve the crime. Some cozy mysteries, while very fun to read, seem like the main character all but puts her life on hold to solve whatever the newest mystery is. "Crewel World" felt like a natural progressiomn of figuring out the killer.

Cute, fast read. Not as good as some cozy mysteries I have read, but definitely better than some! I was sad about the murder that led to the mystery, and I was a little upset, not about who the bad guy was, but rather who it wasn't. I thought I had it all figured out, but was wrong. I definitely enjoyed this book and will read the second one!
