“Competitive”  (good grief!) travel by an “influencer’. Lots of photos, far too many of this “influencer” posing while briefly touching down for a few hours in each of the countries she brags about visiting. And yet at one point she lectures others for contributing to climate change.

I am surprised and disappointed that National Geographic had anything to do with the publishing of this book. I had believed that they were about responsible and respectful travel.

As someone who loves to travel and watch a lot of travel vlogs, i was so excited to get this book. Now that I have it and i see all the beautiful pictures and wonderful experiences that the author shared in it, i really want to start planning and saving for my one-year travel plan.

The great thing about this book is how personal and human these countries and its people are described. For example, there are so many countries I have never heard of, but Jessica captured them in such a way that i know not just the country's name but the people and their culture. Also, you can feel how different countries changed her perspective or ideas she might have had before visiting them, an example is her experience in North Korea.

She also touched on her Blackness and ho9w that is received in different countries and how she navigated that. You could tell that in visit so many countries, she gained a deeper understanding of herself and the people we share planet earth with. She also offers some tips on travelling, and some climate actions.

Thanks to TLC book Tours for making this book available to me.

It was ok, the pictures were really beautiful, it's a nice coffee table book kind of thing. Something about the story just rubbed me the wrong way though. She demanded "luxury" in Honduras. Well that's not exactly the place for it, I guess it gave me that spoiled American vibe. I like luxury too, I don't do hostels with no hot water but instead of showing up and being a jerk to the locals, I just do not travel to places that I have to deal with that. Idk how to explain it, just eh. There is also some conflicting info online if she really was the first woman to do it all.

Eye-opening. Nabongo does a fascinating job highlighting many of the countries she's visited, just showing how beautiful everywhere is. Great emphasis on countries that are often left out in most media (ex. many African nations) and showing that there are so many possibilities for travel, many places to see and things to do. Nabongo has given me a greater appreciation for the world and sparked my curiosity to explore more.
