This was my first book by the this lovely author and Bindi did not disappoint!! I loved this book! I loved all the characters and how close everyone was! I especially loved Scarlettā€™s close friendship with her bestie Teddy!! Their interactions were so fun to read!
I Loved the banter and back and forth between Scarlett and Finn! The looks, the subtle touches, the SLOW BURN!! The chemistry between these too were off the charts! There was a lot of will they or wonā€™t they!! I highly recommend this book to my romance loving besties!!! Canā€™t wait to read more from this lovely author!

I have been on a fantasy kick and a romcom was much needed and this.. BAR SET HIGH. I picked it up and had to keep reading. Finn and Scarlettā€™s relationship had me from the moment we got to meet them and get to know them. The story and flow just felt so natural and was SO CUTE. The wording he uses to describe her and their chemistry just all was so organic and it is something I think every person would love to have in their life! I am so ready for the next book; also, Iris is too dang cute.

RULES IN LOVE By Bindi Kennedy

Have you ever wanted someone so desperately, youā€™d risk everything for just one kiss?
For as long as I can remember, I have lived life according to my list of ten rules.
The most important?
Do not date men you work with. Itā€™s asking for trouble.
Adherence has never been an issueā€¦
Until now.

Single dad Finn moves to NYC from Byron Bay to give his daughter a better life. His past was filled with heartbreaking loss. He had a plan to build his architecture profile and return to Australia to start his own firm.

Single mum Scarlett moved to NYC from London a few years ago with her best friend for work, and for her son to have a relationship with his American father.

From the moment Finn and Scarlett meet, they are lost for each other. Not that either shares or admits that. But they are forced to work together on a project, walls come down and sparks fly.

The chemistry between Finn and Scarlett was palpable. Bindi wrote the characters with such confidence and conviction you could almost hear their accents as they spoke.

Heā€™s such a golden retriever personality but is also so broken by his life experiences, he doesnā€™t realise how much it impacted him. Some of his choices make you want to punch him square in the face.

Throughout the story Scarlett gains strength and finds her voice. Sheā€™s hidden from the world, and fallen into her novels, sheā€™s forgotten herself.

I loved all the Aussie-isms in this book. From the mention of my all time favourite band and lead singer to our colloquial sayings, it hit the right spot for me.

Thereā€™s a lot of angst, mutual pining and a touch of spice - our beautiful Finn has a dirty mouth too.

A great debut novel

Rules In Love - West Village Series #1 - Review

Couple: Finn Austen & Scarlett

Author: Bindi Kennedy

Tropes: single parent romance, workplace romance, new adult romance, insta-attraction, found family

Review: This was my first read from this author and it was a good beginning to a sweet series. The book is dual POV and has a ton of angst.

The main arcs in this book are how the two MCs can give in to their feelings while taking care of their kids. It was a different read for me and I enjoyed how both MCs had different concerns about each other.

Scarlett was not my favorite FMC in the book and I felt like she was immature at times and did not grow as much as I wished. I enjoyed the chapters with her and Finn as they grew closer and also when she was with Ben.

Finn was my favorite in this book. I thought his chapters were hilarious and witty. I also enjoyed how his past played a huge role in his feelings and mental state. I thought the way Bindi wrote his character made the story elevated. The raw loss and confusion Finnā€™s character has is perfect for his arc and growth. I also thought the way his history came to a head with his feelings for Scarlett were honest and real.

The book has insta-lust vibes and hot chemistry. It is a quick and steamy read that will make you swoon and curse all at once. My only complaint is that the two of them did not communicate for how mature they should have been and I felt like they resolved issues too fast. I enjoyed the secondary characters and hope they get stories too.

Rating: 3/5, too fantastical for me but a good read

I am honored to have been given the ARC for ā€œRules in Loveā€ by Bindi Kennedy. This is Bindiā€™s debut novel, & she put her all into it! I hope you all enjoy it as much as I did!

ā€œRules in Loveā€ includes the following tropes: workplace romance, forced proximity, love at first sight, mutual pining, opposites attract, single parents, & slow burn.

The MCs are Finn & Scarlett. The side characters include the following: Scarlettā€™s 7 year old son Benjamin, best friend Theodore, & her sonā€™s father Brett. Other side characters include Finnā€™s 7 year old daughter Iris, his sister Evie, aunt Jocelyn, & best friend Nate.

Finn & his daughter, sister, & aunt have moved to NYC from Australia in order to build a new, better life. Deep down, Finn is a broken, grieving man, who lost his parents a year before he lost his girlfriend during the birth of his daughter Iris 7 years ago. Although itā€™s been several years, Finn has a hard time grappling with life. In order to mask his pain, Finn is a very controlled, meticulous person, who has to have everything just right. He is overly organized & all of his surroundings are spotless, not one thing out of place. He has a three-year plan that he is determined to stick to in order to keep his promise to Shelby, his daughterā€™s mother who passed, & being distracted by a beautiful woman at work is not in that plan.

Scarlett & her son Benjamin & best friend Theodore moved to NYC from London after both received opportunities to work at an architectural company. Benā€™s father Brett lives in NYC, so Ben would now be able to spend time with his father. Scarlett lost her parents when she was a child, & lived in foster homes until university. She got pregnant with Ben when she was 18 & was thrown out of her dorm. That is when she met Teddy. Teddy took her in & the rest is history - their friendship is unbreakable, & they have always been inseparable. Scarlett is a hard-working, strong, independent woman who is loyal, loving, clumsy, somewhat messy, & absolutely obsessed with Jane Austen. When the new guy at work showed up, she couldnā€™t believe her eyesā€¦ or his last nameā€¦ Austen.

Scarlett has a list of ideologies regarding love that she lives by, & one is to never date men she works with. This becomes difficult when Finn, the new guy at work, shows up for his first day. Scarlett is immediately taken by him & his hotness. Little did she know, Finn actually felt the same about her after he took one look at her. However, neither did anything about it, & both fumbled their words around each other & were extremely awkward. That is, until they are forced to work together on his auntā€™s new home - cue Team Finnlett. The longer they spent together, the less awkward they felt & acted around each other, & they eventually became friends who wanted to bang each other very, very badly. However, both had kids & responsibilities, & different livesā€¦ until they fit into each othersā€™.

The intimacy in ā€œRules in Loveā€ is playful, funny, & hot. Scarlett & Finn are hilarious together, & act like horny teenagers at times, sneaking around at work & Finn going over to Scarlettā€™s house at night for a quickie every so often. Basically, they tried to get some whenever they could no matter the circumstances. The slow burn that led up to this, though, was painful ahaha. Bindi definitely knows how to write a slow burn!

In closing, I really enjoyed this book! I never end up reading books that are ā€œlove at first sight,ā€ so that was a nice change!

I had an amazing time reading this book!!! It was a fun, great story from the beginning but I 100% enjoyed it more and more as it progressed. All the characters are very fun and unique, many of them made me laugh more than once. I really liked how Finn and Scarlett bonded and grew together partly because of sharing their pasts and insecurities/worries. Towards the end, some troubles made it hard to read for a second because I was suffering for the characters (that part where you're always like please let everything go right and smoothly).Ā
I loved every moment with the four of them. Special mention for the kids, I *woved* them, especially Iris, she was so cute and sweet!!!
