I'm trying to get into graphic novels and this was a fantastic start!

Beautiful, beautiful art; and while I liked the point the author was trying to make, I think that people who aren't gamers might struggle a bit with some of the concepts in the content.

Absolutely SPECTACULAR! Felicia Day called it "a lovely graphic novel for gamer girls of all ages" but, really, I think it's a lovely graphic novel for gamers, girls, and gamer girls of all ages. The main character is delightful, the artwork is adorable, and the message is striking. I adored it.

Interesting read and I feel I learned something about gaming and its complexities.

The illustrations are excellent. Fantastic style and never stagnant.
The writing was pretty disappointing. The introduction was an excellent essay that shows that Doctorow really understands the forces at play in MMOs, but he misses the mark on the details that had me unable to really enjoy the setting and story. A bit of a squandered opportunity, as it also barely gets going before it's over. Could be adapted into a nice feature-length if it got fleshed out a bit. Maybe he felt he had to keep it approachable for a younger audience, or one without first-hand experience with MMOs. Not a waste of time, but entirely inessential when books like Ready Player One do a much better job on the subject.

I liked it a lot, but the short story it's based on, "Anda's Game" has a lot more elements that I really missed in this version. There's supposed to be a sequel on the way, so maybe there's hope yet?
