This felt like an OKAY Jill Shalvis Heartbreaker Bay tip off. I’ll likely read the next one - because Jake intrigued me, but hoping it’ll be better.

It was kind of an "Big city girl heard that her (insert here) has died and left her an Inn but her ex boyfriend/true love also lives here." vibe, but overall it was super cute and I enjoyed it. The little characteristics that made it unique - mermaid references and location, etc. - were engaging and made it easy to breeze through. Jenny Holiday has a knack for writing characters we can all relate to, with wonderful internal and external dialogue. It was a great beach read!

Mermaid Inn gave me the warm cozies of a Hallmark movie, but a little sexier. Themes are friendship, young love, and second chances. I think we’ll get more books from this world. I’m looking forward to them.

I voluntarily read an early copy.

First of all, I love that Mermaid Inn is set in Canada, even if it's in the East. The cover first drew me in, but it was the complimentary copy of the second book [b:Paradise Cove|48717760|Paradise Cove|Jenny Holiday|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1574336817l/48717760._SY75_.jpg|74074874], that motivated me to sneak it into my reading stack. I listened to this one on audio and fell in love with the characters and the small tourist town. Eve Abbott is the heroine in this novel, and she has returned to her aunt's inn after her death. She is set upon selling the inn and getting out of Matchmaker Bay as quickly as possible. Sawyer Collins, her reason to get out of dodge, has other ideas. He lost Eve once, and plans to win her over again. It was a sweet romance that reminds me a bit of a Hallmark movie (in a very good way!) and I am excited to read the next book in this contemporary romance series.

This was a really cute book! I do not normally read a whole lot of contemporary romances.. and honestly second chance romances are my least favorite trope out there. But this one worked for me. I liked the small town setting. I liked the quirkiness of the town and the people who lived there.

I have a few issues with the lack of communication between the two main characters but over it was a quick and enjoyable read.
