Burke always manages to find a way to completely unsettle me before I even understand what is going on. This short story collection is eclectic and still manages to weave a few similarities between them. Admittedly some of them didn't quite hit the mark with me, I got a little zoned out in the environment I think but the ones that did were more than enough, The House on Abigail Lane could have stood all on it's own, it's just that great.

I just love this guy’s short stories. He is a true master of atmosphere. I usually trot out the clichéd review of short story collections, you know, the one in which you talk about the two or three great stories, the two or three good ones, and the many not so good ones that were added just to fill the page requirement. The stories in ‘We Live Inside Your Eyes’ are all of the first category— brilliant!

I like this author's writing more and more as I discover his works, I found out last year that I was a sucker for a good horror short story collection and this one was pretty good! A few of the stories didn't really stick but many were great and a few are definitely going to stay with me for some time, here is a list of my favorites (I don't put "The house on Abigail lane in this list as I read this one independantely earlier in the year):
- The mannequin challenge
- A wicked thrist
- Go warily after dark

“Outside there is nothing, Outside’s already gone, Inside I am waiting, Inside I am wrong…”

We Live Inside Your Eyes is the terrifying collection of stories from all kinds of horror by Kealan Patrick Burke. Featured are 13 tales which are designed to disturb the reader and they do just that. What I like about these stories is that they touch on kinds of horror which stem from within. The human monster is one scary prospect and these stories explore that and much more.

Some of my favourites were:

The Land Of Sunshine

Traveler

Go Warily After Dark

Down Here With Us

Sanctuary

A Wicked Thirst

You Have Nothing To Fear From Me

The House On Abigail Lane

I might as well have listed them all because there was not one story I didn’t like or feel unnerved by. They have been written in such a way which speaks volumes when it comes to challenging the reader to see how much the horror can affect them. Thats what I like about stories like these. My only regret is that I didn’t read this sooner, I haven’t read a book by this author in quite some time and Ive already got another lined up for next month.

A must read for all horror fans

The stories in this horror collection were really captivating and immersive. I really felt as if I were there; I could feel the dank are pressing around me and choking me with mold spores. I had tingles down my spine and nightmares from some of the imagery. It was a good mix of stories and I liked that they were all encapsulated within a framing story that pulled them together.

I dont want to give anything away because half the thrill is reading and discovering for yourself, but I will say that my favorite stories were The Traveler, Mannequin Challenge, A Wicked Thirst, and the House on Abigail Lane. Even though I really liked all the stories, these in particular seemed to stick with me. I also enjoyed the notes about the stories at the end. Even though I was able to understand the general meaning behind what Kealan Parrick Burke was trying to convey, it's always nice to hear the authors inspiration from the source.

Definitely read this one!

Short story collections are always a mixed bag for me. I read the first couple of stories in this one and thought, “hmmm, not what I expected; a little weird…maybe this will be the KPB I don’t connect with.”  Then I read Traveler and holy shit, I was hooked.

I’ve read a few things by Burke before and they’ve pretty much been horror with a bit of supernatural or unknown thrown in. This collection felt more like cosmic horror, which isn’t usually my jam, but I should have known Burke would change my mind. The stories are bleak and yes, weird, but if you’re a fan of horror, there’s something for you in this mix.

I really liked The House on Abigail Lane and The Monster Under the Bed but the stand outs for me were Traveler, The Mannequin Challenge, and A Wicked Thirst; all three were just fantastic. I also enjoyed the story notes included at the end. It’s always nice to be able to peek inside the mind of an author, especially a mind that creates dark and depraved stories like these.
