I'm a sucker for stories where people have a big life change (usually a death, breakup, or loss of job) and they flee to a small seaside town somewhere and open or work in a bakery, bookstore, or knitting shop. This is one of those, so you know the story already. But the enjoyment is in the familiarity of the story. Here, I wanted fresh bread the entire time, and even went to far as printing a recipe for making bread at home! This is not literary in any sense, the love story part of the plot was all over the place and could have done with a few less twists and turns, but overall, enjoyable.

3.5/5 officially :)

sometimes you just need a good, cheesy romance centered around bread. this was right up that alley!
With some twists & turns, and a happy ending, this book was a perfect summer read set on the English coast!

I enjoyed this sweet, fun story about starting over and finding yourself along the way. I loved the town of Mount Polbearne and its myriad of inhabitants (especially Neil). I was expecting something light but was appreciatively surprised by the heavy moments. The plot was excellently drawn though I felt the end was little abrupt and I loved seeing Polly grow. After reading this, my backup life plan is to move to a random coastal town in England (and in the meantime, I will get some artisan bread).

Main character is insufferable and the writing is boring.
